This book has some very difficult subject matter. Child abuse in any form is never easy to read about and this book has some especially difficult moments. But I can appreciate the fact that the author didn't go into a lot of detail in regards to certain issues. It was upsetting as it's meant to be but I didn't feel that the author overdid it. Eva wants answers, her marriage in crisis and unable to move forward. But after talking to her grandmother she decides to to go to a town outside Dublin to find these answers. When Beth left her mother, sister, and hometown to move in with her father and his lady friend, she did not cut ties as decisively as you would expect. For all of her mother's disgust with this choice, Beth's roots are too deep for her to completely revoke her hometown. The story fast forwards twenty-six years and we meet Eva, a beautiful young woman with a mysterious past, who's happy life is suddenly shattered by tragedy. When everything seems lost, a man enters her life... a man through whom she will find answers to questions she could never have answered. Out of nowhere, I would jump from behind her bed and scream. As you can imagine, this caused quite a reaction. It scared the hell out of her, time and time again.

I will start by saying that a lot of people may find the subject matter a difficult one to deal with in this book. I think I'm weird as I don't mind reading 'uncomfortable' books but do avoid it if you're not comfortable with tales of child abuse. When she is forced to return home, she discovers that in leaving her sister Sara, she also left a void that Sara filled. Again, this will chill you. In addition to the usual array of categories, there are also some fetish ones like for foot fetish types—yeah, we’re looking at you, Quentin Tarantino. If the person isn’t aware of the behavior after they wake up, this could be a sign of a parasomnia. The individual experiencing sexsomnia may have their eyes open and act awake. However, they’re experiencing an amnesic episode and won’t remember anything.I’ve enjoyed Laura Elliot’s previous books, but somehow this one seemed to fall a bit short. I kept thinking that I could see where she was going with it, and what she was aiming to achieve, but then it just didn’t deliver what I was expecting. It’s a pity because all the ingredients are there for a really powerful story: characters you can identify with, a villain who you want to see brought to justice, heartaches and triumphs, and weaving it all together, the author’s skilful writing that is still very much in evidence, even though she doesn’t wrap it all up with the punch I very much wanted to see! Having really enjoyed The Betrayal, by the same author, I was intrigued by this book. I love the cover, and thought the blurb sounded interesting.

When to get medical advice

I love the way Laura Elliot tells a story. She keeps you guessing - always guessing - how all of the threads will tie together. How does this relate to that? What does he have to do with her? What does this mean? What does that foreshadow? There’s porn, and then there’s porn. You see, there’s the same old run-of-the-mill 2D porn, and then there’s 3D, virtual reality porn.
