About this deal

In the Candle Cove novels, it is revealed that before he became the Skin-Taker, he was a man named Thade Soben. Many thanks so Zephyr Books and NetGalley for an advanced copy of Skin Taker by Michelle Paver in exchange for an honest review. I've mentioned before that Paver helps to ignite a love and passion for the natural world (from my child and adult reading experiences), and that is another reason I can only recommend it. For that reason, I have recommended this series to parents and children when I worked in a bookstore, and I would love to pass these books on to any children I may have, when they get to the right age. This is a first rate magical action/ adventure for older children and younger teens, but I would recommend reading the earlier books in the series first (as I’m looking forward to doing).

Finally, can you give us any details or hints about what might happen next in the next book in the series, Wolfbane? Meticulously researched, atmospheric [...] and relentless, this instalment deservedly introduces Paver to a new generation of readers' Guardian The world of Torak and Renn is that of six thousand years ago. That’s after the Ice Age, but before farming spread to Scandinavia – when the land was one vast Forest. The eighth and penultimate book in the Wolf Brother series and a compelling standalone, Skin Taker, is a story of survival, despite the capricious nature and fragility of Stone Age life' - Armadillo Magazine

Hello all new and old in the fandom, I give you a fantastic deal. Request anything Creepypasta related to me and I'll write it for you. Torak and Renn need to travel north to the deep forest to try and save the First Tree and their forest home, but a new leader has come to power in the North. He is intent on creating further division in the clans between “The Chosen Ones” safe in the surviving forests of the north and the decimated southern clans

They change from time to time, but here are the ones that have lasted. For heroes, it’s Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings and Hector from The Iliad. For villains, it’s Dracula (the Bram Stoker one, of course), and Stavrogin from The Devils. Paver powerfully presents a world view that’s magical but never primitive’ Financial Times’It transports us a long way from the here and now’ Sunday Times, Children’s Book of the Week’This book is a novel to be cherished, treasured and loved by every young generation to come’ LoveReading4Kids When she mysteriously disappears, Torak and Wolf brave the Far North to find her. At the mercy of the Sea Mother and haunted by ravenous ice bears, their quest leads them to the Edge of the World. Skin Taker When he was outcast, Torak was the hunted one. The following spring, he becomes the hunter when he swears to avenge the killing of one of his closest friends. The story itself is sound, do I do think it's missing something that the previous books did have. I only can't quite figure out what that is. I do know, however, that I think it's a bit cheap - if that's the right word - of partially re-using some ideas that were present in Book 5 - Oathbreaker. The Deep Forest, how the clans there act, the idea of war, Gaup's presence... Okay, it may be realistic, and the way she writes it and everything certainly is realistic as well, but it just looks as if she's written the same book twice with some changes. The two bases of the book - the meteorite and Naiginn - are good, though.

Assorted other narratives present The Skin Taker as a foreboding sign of what is to come. The protagonist of "Candle Cove: Day of the Dead" recalls how her son received a macabre statuette of The Skin Taker playing a piano not long before he was murdered by a man for playing the Candle Cove theme. In terms of characters Skin Taker seemed to focus more on developing the central cast, it was good to see The Walker make another appearance though. There were some very well done emotional scenes between Torak and Renn and I think Wolf too grew more as character this time, especially at the end. Run wild with Wolf Brother in a Stone Age world we all want to be a part of with million-copy-selling author, Michelle Paver. Danger, magic and non-stop adventure await Torak, Renn and Wolf. The Clans will be tested as never before, as they battle to find ways to survive and thrive in their beloved Forest.
