About this deal

The reality of Jura, though, is far from dystopian, though the rainfall can be wearing. Warm your insides on a tasting trip to the Isle of Jura Distillery, which relies on the abundant water supply for its well-regarded single malt. If whisky isn’t your poison, head instead to the Lussa Gin Distillery; while you’re here, you can walk to the northern tip of Jura to view the " Scottish Maelstrom" – a surging whirlpool that becomes a boiling cauldron during flooding spring tides. Commune with birdlife on Unst, Shetland One of the best destinations for a weekend break in Scotland, Fort William sits on the eastern shore of Loch Linnhe, in the shadow of Ben Nevis. The start or end point of the West Highland Way, you are within striking distance of Skye and the Isle of Mull to the west and Fort Augustus to the north. Around these wave-battered isles, you’ll find whisky distilleries, awesome beaches, epic landscapes that leave walkers weak at the knees and tombs, stone circles and ruins that weave hypnotic tales of Scotland’s earliest inhabitants, alongside million-strong bird colonies that transport birders to feathered heaven. Travel:Linlithgow is well served by rail routes connecting with Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Stirling and Cumbernauld.

Wigtown became Scotland’s National Book Town in 1998 to help revitalise a town that had lost its major industries. Today more than 20 book-related businesses are based here, and with more than a quarter of a million books to choose from this is a real paradise for bibliophiles. Peter Irvine has devised and directed many of Scotland’s major public events from the Glasgow’s European City of Culture in 1990 and the Opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999 to the Inauguration of the Queensferry Crossing in 2017. He created and was the Director of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay from 1992 to 2018. Travel:Travelling by car is the best way to see Aberfeldy in all its glory and is served by an extensive number of road networks across Scotland’s cities. You can use a combination of both train and bus by getting the train to Perth or Pitlochry. Some of the features and locations chosen are iconic and renowned internationally, like the preternatural-seeming Fingal’s Cave with its basalt columns on the Isle of Staff a’s coast, or the fiery Norse-inspired Up Helly Aa festival that takes place in Shetland each year.

FORT WILLIAM

A walk along the River Kelvin footpath takes you to the greenery of Kelvingrove Park with the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Above the trees, you have the towers and curves of elegant townhouses at Park Circus. The view from here across the city towards the Clyde, with the Finnieston Crane featuring prominently, was captured by photographer Oscar Marzaroli and later became the cover for the Deacon Blue album Raintown. Today you are greeted by a strikingly beautiful and serene range of peaks and ridges, culminating in Biedean nam Bian, known as the Three Sisters. Berriedale Wood can be found in amongst the towering hills of Hoy, a unique and special place to visit at all times of the year. Head into this hidden gully to find various species including downy birch, rowan, aspen and willow, and all kinds of wildlife too. The dramatic summits of Ward Hill and the Cuilags stand in stark contrast to the rest of Orkney, and can be seen from almost anywhere on the Orcadian mainland. This Neolithic village – which, at 5000 years, is older than Stonehenge or the Pyramids of Giza – lay buried in coastal sand dunes for centuries. Even today, it can feel as though the inhabitants have just slipped out to go fishing and could return at any moment. 10. Walk through the dramatic scenery of Glen Coe Best place for clan history Make this the year you explore Scotland's islands and start with Barra at the southern end of the Outer Hebrides. The only place in the world where scheduled flights land of the beach, you can sit in the airport cafe and watch as planes make a dramatic entrance.

The town was the location for Tannochbrae in the original Doctor Findlay’s Casebook television series. It’s a short drive to Loch Katrine, the main fresh water supply for Glasgow. Scenic cruises of Loch Katrine leave from Trossach’s Pier where you can also hire bikes. The area is linked to folk tales about Rob Roy MacGregor and the Rob Roy Way, a long distance footpath that runs from Drymen to Pitlochry passes through the town. This area of the country deserves a pilgrimage in 2022. The landscape is nothing short of remarkable. The mountains of Glen Coe are built from some of the oldest volcanic strata in the world, dramatically moulded by fire and ice 380 million years ago. This is both a guide and coffee table book capturing the distinct and unparalleled beauty of the Scottish islands and highlighting the best – it’s in the name – attractions to be found in each location.
