This book took me on a ride the entire time and I couldn't put it down. I'll be honest that the beginning was hard for me to get into, but once we met Noah in chapter 4, I knew I needed to keep reading. The angst killed me, made me sob, and had me smiling all at the same time. There's so many things that happened in this book that I can't even though on because it would spoil it, but I will say it was a journey that left me forever changed. Nonetheless, the pacing of the book was very well done and I loved how character-driven it was. Do gotta say there isn’t much of a plot but the characters made up for it! (Except for Chase lmao) Every girl wanted a bite, but who could blame them? They were model students, star athletes, and undercover bad boys. No matter a girl’s type, one of the three was sure to fit the bill. The story revolves around 5 inseparable best friends ~ Arianna, Mason, Chase, Brady & Cameron. They were together constantly in high school, are deeded a beach house together and go to college together. The girls live together and the boys live together. The boys play football together and if the girls aren't at the games then they're watching it on tv together. That's a whole lot of togetherness.

A main trope in this book is a love triangle, but it's honestly so much more than that. It has a love triangle of sorts, but not really, in my opinion. The heroine does feel conflicted at times, but it's pretty clear for most of the book that the triangle is heavier on one side than the other to everyone but the heroine. I know love triangles aren't for everyone, but I swear this isn't like other books with this trope and there's a clear winner between the two men. Like this is really not a great way to start. It's so cliche to already have a trio of super-hot guys that are all friends. But then the author tells us they're all also super smart, super athletic, and bad boys. Later we also learn that they're similar heights. So the only difference is their hair color I guess... The guys are all football players and are really good. Its not the main focus of the book, but it is a dynamic in their lives thats always been there. Let's talk about the star of this book for me: Noah Riley. My sweet angel baby, Noah 🥰 Noah is so pure with a true heart of gold. I loved the way he adored his mom and the love he had for her. Noah is the definition of "he falls first" and "boy obsessed". He met Arianna by accident and was taken with her right away. He was caring, sweet, adoring, and absolute perfection. I loved how he paid attention to what was important to Arianna and made her life easier. Acts of service is definitely his love language and it showed in the way he took care of her. He deserves all the love in the world and has the patience of a saint. I would give anything to have him call me 'Juliet' or 'baby' 🥺 My heart broke for him after the tragedy and the events that unfolded. There's so much trauma that he'll have to work through and I just wanted to hold him.

It has so many other tropes that I don’t want to spoil but if you want to know… look at the bookshelves here. Starting out I loved this book. I couldn't put it down! I love a good brother's best friend trope! The adventures their little group went on were fun and it was cool how close they were. For example, when the heroine is telling us (lots of telling in this book) about her twin brother and his two best friends, we get: So I liked this well enough, but I feel like I could have liked it a bit more about 10 years ago, not when these characters are close to my daughters age. I can’t be thinking about my precious girl doing all the things these kids are doing ~ fake id’s, underage drinking and hookin up and what not. Can’t say I didn’t do it myself, but ya know, not my sweet baby girl. Going to have to start phasing out of reading YA romance.

It had the right amount of drama without drawing it out, while keeping the storyline moving forward. Say you Swear is a love triangle, college football sports romance with angst, friendships, love, and heartbreaking moments that took me on an emotional rollercoaster and had me feeling all of the emotions.

I rated it four stars purely because of the emotions and vibes I experienced during the book. However, there are a lot of plot holes, and the book didn't need certain additional plot elements (no spoilers here!) and probably didn't need to be as long as it is. It could have been shorter yet equally impactful. This review is going to be different than my usual format because I'm not going to provide a blurb before my review. I usually summarize the book (without spoilers), but this one is just too hard to do without giving things away. I HIGHLY recommend going in without any information because it makes it so much better. The actual blurb for the book doesn't give much away, so if you're curious, I'd recommend reading that.

I'm obviously in the minority here.. but I couldn't. I DNFd @ 35%. If you want to read my rant about this book scrollllllll down. FYI I read the synopsis when adding this to my TBR before it was out. So of course when it came out, I saw all the gushing over it, and I went straight in not reading the synopsis since that TBR add.. so I really went in blind.. not to mention the synopsis did a crap job of explaining this book. Also the song lyric thing with Ariana was just annoying. She didn’t even tell us what songs half the time. I just love when a book makes you feel so many emotions throughout the process of reading it and this book did just that and more!!

That kinda annoyed me but it didn’t bother me that much. Also, its long and could be couple of chapters shorter but other than that every chapter is important and you see it in the couple of chapters in the end. I loved the idea of love triangle, and of a heroine who moves on from who she thought was the one only to meet someone who truly is the one. This is my favourite type of love triangle. Needless to say, I didn’t like how this book progressed that plot.I know it’s advertised as a love triangle but for my girlies that don’t like the trope… it’s not your typical love triangle where she is struggling a lot…. I feel like you are going to root for the person that she ends up with no matter what. (My opinion, of course) Honestly, I don't really like the author's writing. And the story and characters are just totally unrealistic; it's clear that the author writes from a list of plot points she wants to hit without truly doing any world or character building. Just like an actor takes on a role and has to understand the nuances for how characters would behave in certain instances, author's also need to do this work to bring their characters and worlds to life.
