Not quite as extreme! The good news with telephoto glass is that it is fairly easy to avoid pointing them into direct sun because of the more narrow angle of view. Furthermore, if you position it properly, these aberrations can be used to artistic effect. I would summarize this performance as being fairly typical but certain not impressive. The lens has a bit soft corner wide open and you better close to F5.6 for best results. In the centre it is very good but you gain a lot by closing by 2 stops

MPB puts photo and video kit into more hands, more sustainably. Every month, visual storytellers sell more than 20,000 cameras and lenses to MPB. Choose used and get affordable access to kit that doesn’t cost the earth. The build quality of the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art is on par with the Sony GM and above the Samyang and Sony FE85mm F1.8 As well as wide-angle, standard and telephoto manual-focus lenses, specialist optics in the range include macro and tilt/shift lenses. Samyang also makes cine lenses but, for now, let’s take a closer look at some of the most popular lenses in the autofocus, premium manual, crop-sensor manual and full-frame manual lines. With the lens set to its maximum aperture of f/1.4, there is significant light fall-off in the corners. Stopping-down to f/5.6 virtually eliminates this. For still images, keeping a distance equal to the diagonal length of the full image surface is recommended. The full frame sensor of a digital camera is 36 x 24mm and the diagonal length is 43.26mm so any distance close to this number is nearer to the ideal than the currently accepted industry standard of 50mm.

Distortion is well controlled, and if you work in JPG format you won't notice a vignette at /1.4 and f/2. But there is a dark cast at the edges in uncorrected Raw images—you might like the effect for portraits, and if you don't, it's easy enough to ameliorate in Lightroom or Capture One. For F1.4 Fans on a Budget

A flimsy shallow circular plastic hood comes supplied with the lens. It fits loosely on a bayonet fitting and has a habit of detaching itself, so may be more trouble than it's worth. Flare isn't much of an issue, but contrast does take a hammering when shooting into the light, which may be a good thing if shooting portraits. Globally the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art wins hands down and cost only 300 euros more than the new Samyang (800 euros) Le Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art est le pire en terme de distorsion et de vignettage , le Samyang est au milieu, le meilleur étant le Sony GM The Samyang shows no distortion. Illumination is fairly even from corner to corner at f/2 and narrower apertures. But at f/1.4 there is a some noticeable dimming at the edges (-1EV) and at the corners (-1.5EV). It's not dramatic and can be compensated for easily using software tools.

Chromatic aberration is the lens' inability to focus on the sensor or film all colours of visible light at the same point. Severe chromatic aberration gives a noticeable fringing or a halo effect around sharp edges within the picture. It can be cured in software. We’ll work through the chart results by first looking at distortion and vignette. As of yet there isn’t a correction profile available in Lightroom, but you can use the first generation profile without issue since the two lenses are essentially optically identical (with one caveat that I’ll discuss in a moment!) We don't list every single Samyang lens in this guide, just those we've tested that are especially interesting to photographers Le Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art est le plus petit de tous et le second plus léger après le Samyang, il est 10% plus court que le Sony FE85mm F1.4 GM et 25% plus léger

There is no hyperfocal distance scale, or hard infinity stop, which is unusual for a lens like this, which uses no low dispersion glass in its optical design. Lateral chromatic aberration is reasonably well controlled at f/1.4 but can be rather noticeable at narrower apertures. It’s rather worse than in most competing 85mm prime lenses. Distortion: 1.16 E Mount AF Auto Focus Weather Sealing Ultra Multi Coating Linear Super sonic Motor Beautiful Bokeh 9 Aperture Blades HR Lens ED F1.4 The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art is the smallest and 2nd in term of weight after the Samyang, 10% smaller than the Sony FE85mm F1.4 GM and 25% lighter Quand on ferme , dès F2 on voit les 9 lames du diaphragme et dans certaines occasions des franges sur les bordsSurprisingly the new Samyang 85 F1.4 II that I have tested is a bit less good than V1, Surely due to sample variation from one lens to another one. The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art stays the king sharpness and has no issues at all with the A7RIV . The Sony FE85mm F1.4 GM is quite behind and less good than the Samyang on the A7RIV and should be limited to 42Mpix max The blue column represents readings from the centre of the picture frame at the various apertures and the green is from the edges. Averaging them out gives the red weighted column. Chromatic aberrations can be quite prevalent towards the edges of the frame at f/1.4, although if you're shooting portraits you may never see this, unless you place high contrast edges towards the periphery. Stopping down reduces any fringing, with fringing falling to more acceptable levels already by f/2. Manual focus isn't for everyone, but if you have the patience (and work more with subjects that sit still, like mountains and buildings) they can be highly rewarding and good fun to use. Many of Samyang's manual-focus primes have had no electronics at all, thus requiring the aperture to be set manually via the control ring. While this does limit the modes you can use, and cause a dark viewfinder image at narrow apertures, it can be an enjoyably tactile experience that feels like "pure" photography.
