Most kettles tend to be bright white, chrome, silver or otherwise have some degree of colourful “pop”. For anyone looking to engender a calming atmosphere in their kitchen, the Kenwood Dusk provides a great, visually soothing alternative to these more attention grabbing kettles.The Dusk has a rotund, matte body lined with glossy stripes and is available in three aesthetically pleasing, muted colours: Slate Grey, Olive Green and Twilight Purple. Being able to brew one cup in 45 seconds, this kettle is anything but slow. Boiling one cup at a time also “saves up to 66% energy” compared to a full boil. Coming with a handy 360 degree base means there’s no awkward placement when putting it down. This also means it’s perfect for right or left handed people.
Equipped with three choices of colours; grey, red and copper… the 23211 Luna is a well designed kettle. We went for the stylish moonlight grey option. There is also an option to buy a matching toaster and coffee maker but we left those out for now. Matching its appearance, the Kenwood’s test results were equally calm, with a peak loudness measurement of just 53.3dB. Its 3,000W heating element also didn’t disappoint, recording a time of 2 mins 20 secs in our one litre boil speed test. What’s more, its peak exterior temperature in use was just 54.6°C, which sits firmly in the warm-but-safe range, meaning no burnt fingers. Other benefits of the Dusk include its 1.7l capacity and wide, smooth-pouring spout. Made from quiet material– Material is a big deal for me. I hate scratchy and cold metal on a kettle, so I look for smooth material like glass. This can also depend on the style you’re looking for. Finally, think about noise. The difference between our quietest and loudest kettles, which measured in at 52 and 63 decibels, is considerable, although everyone’s tolerance to noise is different.Rapid Boil Zone - Utilising modern rapid boil technology, it can boil 1 cup (around about 235ml) in 45 seconds. Followed by the Russell Hobbs 21888 in third… a great choice if you’re looking for bold colours and a traditional style. Push Button Lid Opener - The lid is opened by a simple push button mechanism, allowing for easy filling. Power Light Indicator - When the kettle is switched on, a power light turns on to indicate that boiling is in process.
The Russell Hobbs 21888 kettle is a contender for the best on this list. There’s almost too many features to talk about on this one but we’ll do our best! Overall, there is no better value for money than the 23211 Luna. It not as high-end as our #2 choice, but comparing price, style and dB level… there really isn’t a better choice. Good capacity– Having a kettle which holds a good amount of water is a positive for those who make more than one from the same boil. Safety features– Safety features such as illuminating when it’s on and cool to the touch are extremely useful to prevent burning. Dynamic Filter - The kettle contains a removable, washable filter designed to reduce problems with limescale.After drinking enough tea to last a lifetime (and a few coffees) we got a real sense of what to expect from a quiet kettle. Even though they’re not a necessity, they work wonders restoring peace and quiet to your kitchen. The Russell Hobbs 20460 would be a strong stable in any modern kitchen. Equipped with a stainless steal fixture ensuring longevity, there’s not much wrong with the 20460. Some reviewers have mentioned that a plastic insert needs to be taken out which isn’t in the instructions, so looks out for that. Equipped with a 3KW replaceable element, this kettle will last as long as you need. Simply replace with element to prolong it’s life. It also comes with a measuring scale at either side, so whichever way you have it faced, you’ll know exactly how much water you’ve added.
