About this deal

Speaking of fingertips, Samsung supplies two remotes with the QE43QN90A: a standard model and less cluttered version that can be charged by USB-C or through its eco-minded solar panel that soaks up ambient light. Features It’s essentially a miniaturised version of the QE65QN94A, so it adheres to same design template Samsung has been pumping out these past few years with its premium sets. The bezel neatly trims the TV’s corners without impinging on the screen, the stand is tough and sturdy, while the uniform depth of the screen (26.9mm) allows it to sit flush against a wall.

Sharpness is also terrifically conveyed in Passengers. The smaller screen and 4K resolution combine to keep this digitally shot production looking razor sharp; the QN90A produces a beautifully pristine and clean-looking image. Multi-View lets you watch multiple sources simultaneously (two screens only), and there are various ‘intelligent’ AI modes such as Adaptive Picture, Adaptive Sound+, Active Voice Amplifier and Adaptive Volume to influence picture and sound through various sensors and microphones. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output One more apparent downgrade of note is the Q60T’s picture processor. Last year, Samsung equipped its 6-series TVs with a Quantum Processor 4K. This year, the Q60T uses a Quantum Processor Lite. To get a Quantum Processor 4K in a Samsung 2020 TV, you’ll have to go for a Q70T or above. To top it off, Samsung has stripped out one HDMI input since last year, leaving the Q60T with only three HDMI 2.0 ports. At least the Q60T supports eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel), which allows you to pass high-quality audio formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to a soundbar or surround sound system.Thankfully, Samsung does let you tweak the sound through an EQ if you leave it on the Standard sound mode, however that option will be disabled if you have AI Sound turned on. If you don’t want to use AI and you don’t want to fiddle with the EQ, you can use the Amplify setting to get an uplift in mids at low volumes, which does help alleviate some problems.

Product review: Samsung QE43QN90A TV - Richer Sounds Blog

When we had the TV fully set up on the stand, with screws fastened as tight as possible, there was still a reasonable amount of wobble to the TV. It wasn’t as bad as the Sony X950H that we lambasted last year for its shakiness, but it’s still much less stable than we’d like. Of course, we can only speak about the 65-inch version of the TV that we had in for testing – the 55-inch TV might be totally fine with its lower weight and center of gravity. The QE43QN90A’s connections are similar to its bigger siblings with 4x HDMI (3x 2.0, 1x 2.1), Ethernet, optical, a CI+ 1.4 connection, 2 x satellite tuners, an aerial and two USB 2.0 ports. With only one HDMI 2.1 port, there’s just a single slot for either an eARC supporting soundbar or game console which is a pity but not surprising at the size. Wirelessly, there’s Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi. Picture quality As for the UI of Tizen, it’s a pretty clean look. Pressing the home button brings up an overlay along the bottom of the screen with your frequently used apps and sources as well as the settings and Ambient Mode. Ambient Mode, more or less, is a lower power mode that helps the TV blend into its surrounding environment while retaining some key information – like the time – up on the screen. It’s been around for a few years now and is still an interior decorator’s dream come true.

The Samsung QN90A Neo QLED TV is part of the Samsung 2021 TV lineup that also includes the Samsung QN85A, Samsung QN80A, Samsung Q70A and Samsung Q60A 4K QLED TVs as well the Samsung QN700A, Samsung QN800A and Samsung QN900A 8K TVs. It was unveiled at the virtual CES 2021 and became available in the US and UK a short time later. It’s currently unavailable in Australia, where instead you can get the similar QN85A. The Samsung QE43QN90A is easily one of the most tempting offers out there at its size. As the only real competition to the OLED panels, which start from 5 inches larger, and with no real compromise between the quality of this and the larger QN90A sets, it’s a fantastic way to get the premium TV you want, without sacrificing wall space or rearranging furniture. Assembly is simple and the overall quality of construction speaks to Samsung’s high standards. 43-inch TVs aren’t often as well built as this one is.
