About this deal

Unlike the other branches we have made for spring, our DIY pussy willow branches do not have any paper blooms on them. You could always add little flower buds on your branches if you would like, but we prefer to keep ours simple. If you are joining our Member Make workshop this month, we will be using three of these branches to make a spring wreath with small blossoms. We then placed them on an old ladder at the entrance of herwedding ceremony (you can see pictures from my sister-in-law’swedding here& here). These cute little pussy willow branches are a great project for beginners because they’re not only easy to make, but they also don’t require too much in terms of special supplies. Here’s a rundown of what I like to use: Floral Wire Trim your stems to the height that works best with your vase. I trimmed my stems just a few inches because I wanted them to reach the chandelier.

For the brown acrylic paint, I used Winsor Newton Galeria Acrylic in Vandyke Brown, but any dark brown will work. Glue Once you have coveredyour wreath with q-tips you can hang it on a door, on yourmantel, or within a letter display! The options are endless! Pussy willow wreaths are a classic yet timeless way to decorate your home throughout the changing seasons. You can create a pussy willow wreath by attaching catkins to a wreath form made of materials such as grapevine or straw. Embellish it with other elements such as ribbon, dried flowers, or pine cones. The result is a beautiful, nature-inspired decoration that can be hung on your door or used to decorate your home's interior. Of course you can use any kind of stem you like. Faux apple blossoms or forsythia would be lovely. I was going for a neutral, natural look so I thought the pussy willows were perfect. If you can’t find real pussy willow stems, the faux ones are amazingly real-looking. Definitely go that route if needed. Looking for some spring decor to craft for your home? Pussy willow is a type of deciduous shrub that is native to North America, Europe, and parts of Asia. The shrub typically grows to a height of 10-30 feet and produces soft, furry grey catkins (also known as pussy willow branches) in the early spring. These catkins are often used for decorative purposes in various forms, including wreaths, garlands, bouquets, and centerpieces. Pussy willow can also be cultivated for ornamental purposes and is widely used in landscaping and gardening to add a touch of natural beauty to outdoor spaces. Creating a pussy willow centerpiece is an easy and elegant way to elevate your dining table. You can gather a bunch of catkins in a vase or create a more complex arrangement with other blooms such as ranunculus or peonies. Tall clear vases or glass bottles of varying heights are perfect for displaying the branches as they allow the catkins' delicate details to shine through. It’s so hard to believe that we have almost made it through 4 years of dental school! Although I am trying to take as much decor as I can up to my parents house before our big move, I must confess that I did go rummaging through the attic last time we were up there for these L-O-V-E letters. I really wanted needed them for our Valentine’s decor!

Pussy willow branches can be incorporated into floral arrangements to add texture and visual interest. They pair well with other natural elements such as dried thistles or eucalyptus leaves. For a more minimalist look, you can add the branches to a vase on their own or in a simple arrangement with other flowers that complement their soft grey color. The resulting arrangements are full of natural beauty and add charm to any space. Crafting tips: When wrapping your cotton spun eggs, it’s okay if the egg is still visible. You just need enough wool to make it look fuzzy! Also, your branches can vary in length — we varied ours between 12–18 inches. And you can use however many eggs you want per branch. For reference, we used between 10 and 15 eggs per 18-inch stem.
