While reading through this novel I could never quite shake the feeling that this started, on some level, as Doctor Who fan fiction. The Third Doctor and UNIT versus the Macra? Maybe. Professor Davenport often feels like a Pertwee character (though younger and a bit lustier) and the general pacing of the book feels like the ebb and flow of a 70s-era Doctor Who serial. Just one with a few added sex scenes* and maybe a bit more gore and violence. What’s going on?” Cliff whispered. “This is so bizarre; it’s as though they’re waiting for something!”

Night of the Crabs (Crabs, book 1) by Guy N Smith

Then you've got several other male characters - who were always "on" the woman (yeah she was taking turns...) or they were something manly. So, is he a sadly underrated British writer whose work deserves wider literary acclaim? You be the judge! Smith appreciated his fans and throughout his long career he produced a number of fanzines, many containing his short stories. They were originally produced as catalogues for his book selling business, but eventually changed into the fan club fanzine Graveyard Rendezvous, which ran for 41 editions. Smith and his wife even opened up their home and welcomed fans every September for an annual convention, an event that lasted over 25 years. While possibly redundant with 3. above, my maturity level peaked sometime between age 12 and 14. Therefore blood, gore, sex and nudity are like manna from heaven to me and words "boner" and "boobies" makes me giggle. And that man can rap too. Here is a sample of a few of my favorite quotes from old Professor Problem-solver: I was born on November 21, 1939, in the small village of Hopwas, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. My mother was a pre-war historical novelist (E. M. Weale) and she always encouraged me to write.

Neben den verhaßten Schalentieren sorgen ein Bankräuber, eine Betrügerin, ein debiler Großwildjäger und ein Koffer voller Geld für Unruhe. Und natürlich gibt es wieder reichlich Sex-Szenen. King Mook: The aptly-named "King Crab," the largest of the already gigantic crabs. His smaller brethren are no slouches, but he's the biggest. The second combination (Combo #2) is the typical WHORE HORROR PORN film that bends, spreads and bounces from one “money shot” to the next with little or shitty dialogue and then throws in a couple of meaningless and unnecessary scenes with a douchetard in a latex, monster suit looking like a reject from a Roger Corman movie. He wanted to run. He could not understand why he didn’t. His brain was in a whirl, trying to comprehend. He failed. This was Shell Island, Wales, a modern holiday resort. An occasional shark was seen out at sea. Nothing else. But these crabs… Night Of The Crabs’ was the first instalment in Guy’s signature ‘Crabs’ series, but should possibly be read after the later released prequel entitled ‘ The Origin Of The Crabs’ (1979). The prequelends exactly where ‘Night Of The Crabs’ takes off, bringing together a seamless and tight storyline to begin the crabs series off with. Damn you, I wanted to forget you, Klin." She raised herself up, and looked at him through tear-filled eyes. "It always happens the same way. I vowed I'd never take another husband." Of course, be advised that you will be cheering for the CRABzillas in this story as the human inhabitants are so hopelessly inept that by the time they get ripped into gory chunks of stupidity you're just sighing thankfully that they've been flushed out of the human gene pool before they had a chance to breed. That is, of course, except for our intrepid hero, Professor Cliff Davenport, whose genius and MacGyver-like ability to squeeze out of tight situations and develop “on the fly” solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems is a “groan inducing” joy to behold. Bottom-line, if the title, the cover and above quotes make you think you would like this, odds are you will. Me, I had a lot of fun with it. Her fingers were active... Cliff felt that thrilling sensation of his zip being pulled down, her fingers groping inside the open vent and then the coolness of the night air on his warm moistness."

Their military intelligence, second to none, neither man nor beast, had no way of overcoming the noise made by those tremendous pincers as they moved.” A very special prize for anyone who can diagram that sentence for me because I was lost after the second comma. Anyone who knows me know that while I love horror, I also love creature feature stories, the bigger and more destructive, the better. The good news is that Killer Crabs delivers that in spades. Huge crabs, wreaking havoc on the poor human population of a luxury island? Count me in 100 freaking percent! I'm not sure if it was an editing issue, or if the original text was messed up, but there are a lot of weird things going on in the Kindle edition with exclamation points, capitalized letters in the middle of sentences and other things like that. Night of the Crabs' was the first instalment in Guy's signature `Crabs' series, but should preferably be read after the later released prequel entitled 'The Origin Of The Crabs'. `Origin’ ends exactly where `Night’ takes off, bringing together a seamless and tight storyline to the crabs series as a whole.Although I didn't enjoy this as much as the first book, this was still quite engaging and cleverly plotted.

The Welsh coast basks in summer tranquility, then the drownings begin… Not until the monstrous crustaceans crawl ashore, their pincers poised for destruction, does the world understand the threat it faces…. Night of the Crabs by Guy N. Smith – eBook Details I don’t, I can’t believe it!” Pat Benson was close to hysteria. “It’s just not possible! It’s a nightmare! Cliff, please tell me it isn’t real!” With 100-plus books to my credit, I was looking for new challenges. In 1999 I formed my own publishing company and began to publish my own books. They did rather well and gave me a lot of satisfaction. We plan to publish one or two every year. This is better than the first installment, "Night of the Crabs," which appears to the be the work of a dawdling amateur who never mastered simple exhortations like "show not tell." Four years later and a few non-crustacean-related books under his belt, the growth of Smith's talent as a writer is evident. That doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
