From a gaming point of view, the 1600dpi sensor found in the MX518 will be a real draw for anyone wanting to improve their frag count. Now I didn’t realise just how clumsy the movement on my basic mouse was until I started using the MX518. Playing my game of choice, Counter Strike: Source, I found that I could zero in on targets from a distance far more easily. This was obviously due to the face that I could move my crosshair with greater sensitivity and ultimately grab more of those kudos enhancing headshots. If you’ve ever used the original Logitech G MX518 then you have a good idea what to expect here. In my product briefing before this review, Logitech shared that they dusted off many of the same tools for the manufacturing process as they did when it was originally made. As a result, the mouse is shaped exactly the same and feels extremely close to the original, if a bit lighter. Wireless keyboards and mice have become more popular than ever, partly because the prices have dropped considerably, but also because they are far more reliable than they used to be. However, for me, a wireless mouse is just not good enough for gaming – I can always feel a slight lag when playing with a wireless mouse, and once again, this could be the difference between living and dying; or more importantly, gloating or sulking. Logitech MX 518 G is best suitable for FPS games such as CS GO, Overwatch, PUBG or Fortnite. But it will serve well in other genres as well.

The return of a legend

People used on ultralight mice will not be happy with it, however good thing is due the excellent balance it does not feel like a 100g mouse. Before I begin talking about the new MX 518 G, you should note that I own original MX 518 for 15 years and I also had 2x MX 510. This is also the reason I was so eager to get my hands on it. Edit: Ok, "tired" was a bit too fast, I couldn't find the word I was looking for. I didn't really mean that sensors are tired, rather that mechanical/physical parts could be, for example in the way the mouse wheel is "held". It could be that the "steps" which are originally on the wheel, are not holding correctly, and any move is turning it, even a bit. It could also be that sensors have a problem, and are simply misplaced or too sensitive.

The next game I tested was Battlefield V. I cut my teeth on the Battlefield series using an MMO mouse and still try to map as many skills to new mice as I can. Like Apex, aiming and navigating felt natural and accurate. The link to the support is here. However, it seems that their mail support is currently being moved, and is unavailable until the 21st of september. You can still call them, though. Side buttons are better than in old MX 518, but their position is not perfect and some other mice have them more upward which seems to be better solution. But the MX518 isn’t just about ultimate sensitivity, it’s also about flexibility. Using the bundled Logitech application, you can pre-program five different sensitivity settings and switch between them at the touch of a button, while you’re playing your game. Located just above and below the scroll wheel are plus and minus buttons – these will switch up and down between your customised sensitivity settings. With this in game adjustment, you can work out what the best sensitivity is for each weapon in your arsenal, giving you that extra edge.
