I know I can’t trust her, but I don’t have a choice. With each step I take, my fear grows stronger. Can she help me find my daughter? Or does she know something about what really happened all those years ago? Something that could stop me from saving my baby girl… What I Thought I received a copy of this book from Bookouture and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to them! Big fan of K.L. Slater... this book did not disappoint! This is a fast-paced psychological thriller that hooks you in from the start. A whole lot of twists and tension in this emotional novel, with a little creep factor added in for some really great reading. The story is told in several timelines starting in 1993 when eight year old Jimmy Bennett is deliberately trapped and subsequently dies inside a disused factory for which Samuel Barlow is convicted. Twenty five years on Samuel is due for release on parole, a huge cause of concern to Jimmy’s sister Josie, a cafe owner and single mum to eight year old Ivy. Maggie, Samuel’s mother is similarly concerned partly because he is now a prison hardened but more than capable of playing games and he was obsessed with with Josie when growing up. Will Josie and Maggie‘s concerns prove to be justified?

K. L. Slater is such a tremendous author. This isn't my first book by her and it certainly won't be the last. She writes psychological thrillers with a sure hand, deftly defined characters that you won't forget easily, and a story premise second to none. Missing was my first book by K.L. Slater but it definitely won't be my last. Missing is an absolutely gripping thriller that will keep your heart rate elevated throughout. What's the thing almost all of us fear the most? That someone we love will be taken and missing or that they are gone for good. That's what Missing is about and it takes the reader on quite the scary journey! I thought I had the mystery solved but I was wrong as the story takes twists and turns throughout. Slater weaves such a great story that I found myself looking for time to read during a busy few days and thinking about the book when I wasn't able to read. That's when you know you're reading a great book! Full of unexpected twists and turns, you are drawn into Josie’s life and how intimidated she feels by Samual’s presence. It’s a completely believable story and that makes it even more frightening! Grace is 9 years old the day she goes missing. She had convinced her parents that she wanted to walk home from her friend’s house that day. It was only a 5 minute walk and her friend Olivia’s father was supposed to watch her walk part of the way and her dad Blake was supposed to watch her come round the bend. Somewhere in between she went missing “just like that.” Now, sixteen years after Billy's death, Rose is living a quiet, mundane, not-so-happy life. She has little fun and no friends - except for her elderly, next-door-neighbor Ronnie.I truly felt great sympathy for Rose. Her life was irrevocably turned upside down after naively falling head over heels for a manipulative and dictating man, causing a domino effect of all the tragedy that followed.

K.L. SLATER K.L. SLATER

Rose thought she knew the truth about what happened to Billy. She thought she knew her neighbour. Now the only thing she knows is that she is in danger… Yet another fabulous title to add to my Bookouture beauties! I have recently come to associate Bookouture with a love of books and probably the most consistent crime thriller collection out there today. That is why each time I get to read an ARC copy of one of their killer thrillers, I just can't say no! Clear the calendar.... Here comes K.L. Slater's new title, THE MISTAKE! When I thought I had it nailed, it then turned another corner with a revelation of her neighbours secrets. Boy oh boy. I’m usually really intrigued and invested when I start a KL Slater book but I’m disappointed with this one. There’s a woman walking a dog, a young mum with a toddler in a pushchair and a couple of teenage lads who’ve just hopped over the fence from the small park. Rose visits her elderly neighbour on a regular basis, but one time she discovers her brothers red blanket in his house unexpectedly. Her friend was assaulted one night by a masked man ... a man who had declared to Rose that the friend would pay for trying to break them up. She eventually committed suicide without ever having spoken to Rose again.

The Narrator: An absolutely addictive and unputdownable

K L Slater is truly a masterful storyteller! This book was paced perfectly, we kept being fed breadcrumbs of information... just enough to satisfy me and make me wanting more... I really enjoyed how the secrets were revealed, I liked trying to figure out what was going on... another well-crafted thriller from a brilliant author! K.L. Slater is becoming one of my favorite authors. This was my second book by her and it did not disappoint! It was fast-paced and kept me guessing all the way through! It was only a five minute walk from the neighbor's house to Grace's home. How did she go missing? Better yet, how did nobody see her? A tight knit community like Violet Rd where everyone knows each other and not one person saw her? I really like this author, but for me, this book fell flat. It was good, fine, adequate, etc., but it didn’t blow me away like some of their other books did. Even with an ending I didn’t see coming, I just found this to be a very average mystery/thriller.

Which ones do you trust, all of them? None of them or some of them? So how do you know that any potential boyfriend is going to turn out to be good or bad. Its a danger we all can fall into.
