About this deal

For emptying, the tank simply pulls out the front of the machine so you can pour away the water. Just be careful, though – the tank is quite heavy when full. The big difference between the two is not just that Arete ® looks fantastic, it is that it is a quieter option than the 20L Low Energy and it has a full Night Mode. In terms of running costs, Meaco says that the 20L unit costs 3.3p per hour based on 15.32p / kWh – and remember that the Smart Humidity Mode means that you probably won't be running the unit 24/7 unless you have a serious humidity problem, in which case a dehumidifier may not be your best long-term solution. The Arete One also has an automatic shut-off function when its water tank is full. At this point, the unit will beep and a red light will be displayed to alert you that the tank needs emptying. This is a useful feature that cheaper dehumidifiers tend not to have, and gives peace of mind that your home's flooring isn't going to be damaged by any overspill. There's also a small window on the front of the dehumidifier that shows you the current water levels. For comparison, Pro Breeze's most energy-effecient comprssor dehumidifier, the Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier, uses 220W to the MeacoDry 12L Arete One's 151W, and costs roughly 6p per hour to run.The Pro Breeze Low Energy dehumidifier also has several other issues that the MeacoDry 12L Arete One does not, as you'll find out in my Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy dehumidifier review.

This handle feels far more robust than most that I've come across on other dehumidifiers and is really easy to grip.

Access and Parking Restrictions

As important as it is to have moisture in the air, too much can cause problems, from mould growth to making it feel hotter as a result of sweat being unable to evaporate. Dehumidifiers are the solution, but many are expensive to run and fiddly to use. The MeacoDry Arete One aims to fix that. It’s relatively cheap to run and can aim for an ideal humidity level automatically, so you’ll never over-dry your air. Design and Features Customers tell us that they never put their dehumidifiers away. In fact, they stay in the same area of the home all the time. So we have designed Arete to be stylish so that it looks great wherever you put it. It sits flush to the wall, has hidden castors and an air purification mode means you can use it all year round too. Normally, you wouldn’t do this – the ideal humidity is usually 40% to 60% and within a few degrees of 50% is fine. However, if you’re trying to deal with mildew, mould or damp patches, then you’ll want to keep it a little lower. The water extraction rate will depend on the temperature and relative humidity. At 10ºC and 60% relative humidity, the dehumidifier can remove 3.4 litres per day; at 20ºC and 60%, it can manage 8.5 litres per day. The MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier's build quality feels solid and durable, and its curved body is a clever touch that makes the appliance look smaller than its H47 x W32 x D24cm measurements. The 12L modeal also fits a generous 2.5 litre water tank into its compact build.

The Arete One is at its noisiest in clothes drying mode, where you’re looking at sound levels of over 50dB and power consumption of over 208W. What’s more, it’s not the most effective dehumidifier I’ve seen for actually drying your clothes; even after six hours some garments were still slightly damp to the touch. In the past we found the Ebac 2650eworked a little better, albeit over a longer 8 hour boost cycle. However, different washing loads and humidity levels make like-for-like comparisons impossible, and the Arete One is still a decent option – you can always leave it on at a lower humidity target or turn on continuous operation if you want it to finish drying out your laundry. To make things easier, Arete comes with a hose adapter to allow you to use a standard garden hose for continuous drainage if you need it. If there are access difficulties, which prevent our driver from delivering the goods into your property, you can request that we drop the items off outside for you to take in yourself. I've been really pleasantly surprised by how quiet the MeacoDry Arete One dehumidifier is.Especially considering noisy operation is usually one of the biggest downsides of running a compressor dehumidifier. The water tank is placed at the front of the machine, so if it is pushed up against the wall, you can still access that easily.
