About this deal

Defeat by Modesty: Played With, as it's a combination of this trope, being forced to sing while naked, and then awakening a singing talent she didn't know she had that ultimately caused her loss against Utena. In an early omake, Sulfur compares Baiser to a mole, mostly for her droopy facial expression. It also fits her personality, as at least initially Utena preferred to stay out-of-sight and was good at escaping (one could say "tunneling out of") difficult situations. Bring My Brown Pants: In chapter 40 she messes her skirt (and implicitly her panties) after being frightened by a screaming ghost in a vase.

Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Devious and manipulative he is, he can be shown to be rather friendly when things are peaceful, and does deliver some well-pointed advice to Utena. Not to mention of him telling Utena and Co. to come pre-transformed before meeting Lord Enorme and her lieutenants to protect their civilian identities. Nerd in Evil's Helmet: She remains a giant magical girl fangirl, but keeps it down-low while fighting Tres Magia by overplaying her (already high) sadistic tendencies and desire for a Worthy Opponent. Power Dyes Your Hair: Her second evolved transformation makes her hair go white or blonde, which pairs with her new Hades Shaded tan to create a nice contrast. Personality Powers: Each member has powers that broadly match the kind of person they are and/or what they want.By the time of chapter 34, she has acclimated so much to her newfound exhibitionism kink that her magical girl costume no longer manifests new panties when she transforms. Laugh with Me!: A variant. She used her shadow powers to coerce a mob of civilians to attend and cheer at Loco's impromptu performance. Turns out, Loco was unaware of this, so she did this purely to make Loco happy. It's All About Me: Joined in the effort to conquer the world just to make it so in the aftermath she would be the only singer around for the people to hear and adore.

Magical Girls / Characters - TV Tropes Gushing over Magical Girls / Characters - TV Tropes

Fallen Hero: Subverted. Magia Azul was ready to fully submit herself to Baiser due to the BDSM sessions they had in their fights, but Baiser herself was disgusted at this and delivered a scathing speech at how heroes must remember who they are and remain committed to the cause. Thankfully, Azul came to her senses, and started training to better resist her desires. This is further Played With when Sulfur fakes her own defection to protect an exhausted Azul and Magenta. This is, however, not the case - they just never clarified Venalita's gender until later on, and the translators assumed it's a guy. Later on, Baiser clearly refers to Venalita as female. Sensible Heroes, Skimpy Villains: Tres Magia have a decently modest uniform consisting of a bubble skirt, short-sleeve blouse, and long gloves and boots. In contrast, the majority of the villainous girls are in fetishistic, hyper- Stripperific costumes that leave their tits or ass completely hanging out.

Scissor Butterflies

The Big Guy: Magia Sulfur has a secret transformation that only her allies know of. It involves manifesting massive magical Power Fists that can really mess up her enemies. But it drains her mana like no other, and most importantly, she'd rather not let the civilians know of this form, as it can be quite scary. Escape Artist: Baiser has been described as 'good at running away' multiple times by various characters. Eating Lunch Alone: Utena sneaks onto the roof or stairs to eat. Not to hide from bullies or anything, she’s just embarrassed to eat or see people eat in public. Energy Ball: While in "Panther Mode" Leopolt loses almost all finesse in harnessing her power and instead of constructing solid grenades, she throws out vaguely arrow-shaped, barely-cohesive plasma bolts. Cute But Psycho: Is probably the most childish and cutesy girl in the cast, but is also a seething berserker with jealousy issues and a tendency to threaten or attempt murder at any perceived slight.

White and Red and Eerie All Over: Has the red eyes, white hair, and unnerving silence that screams "Evil Albino" which doesn't help that her powers are just as scary. However, outside of the battlefield, she's a quiet yet sweet young girl who wants to play with her toys. Voiced By: Shiori SugiuraThe newest and youngest recruit of Enormeeta. A young girl who doesn't speak, who joined Enormeeta for unknown reasons. She can trap enemies in her dollhouse and control them like toys. Covert Pervert: Being turned into a BDSM-themed magical girl awakened Utena's own fetish, not helped by Venalita planting SM magazines for her to find and enjoy. Taking the Bullet: Shields Baiser from the brunt of Azul's "Love Avalanche" with her body, allowing her leader and love to be the last magical girl (just barely) standing from the pitched melee, Until Magenta intervenes.

Bondage Is Bad: Utena is a BDSM-themed magical girl, and she's fighting for the bad guys. Not that she has a choice... It does get Played With as Utena is usually a kind and somewhat meek girl, but she also gets off on fighting the magical girls and there is a heavy BDSM side to her she keeps hidden. That said the series doesn't necessarily portray it as bad, just a quirk of Utena's personality that drew the forces of evil to her. Fully subverted later when Azul one of the good guys gains a power-up that is linked with her desire to be dominated.

My God, What Have I Done?: Basically how Utena feels after any fight with the Magical Girls though special mention goes to her accidentally Mind Breaking Azul. Fantastic Arousal: In chapter 43, while fighting Pantano, Kiwi blurts out that "Utena's weak-spot is her bellybutton", and goes on to demonstrate it by simulating cunnilingus on her navel to the point she climaxes.

Ending Theme

This whole mix ends up as a glorious and hyperdrive edgefest, but one that has a lot of heart and love for its own genre, with some thematic nuggets that are worth exploring. And any Magical Girl show that gives a someone full on MAXIMUM SYMPHOGEAR PUNCH FISTS is a good series in my eyes. The Empath: Seems to be able to sense emotions on top of magic, as he could feel Kiwi throwing a tantrum over Tres Magia and could tell Utena was a sadist even though she never showed a hint of those inclinations in her normal life. Power Incontinence: Getting overly turned on while in civilian mode causes at least Venalita’s girls to involuntarily transform into their magical girl costumes.
