About this deal

These days, you can get keycaps in various shapes and sizes. Some common types of keycaps are Cherry, DSA, OEM, SA, and XDA. Generally, they use materials like ABS and PBT plastic. As these keycaps aren’t mass-produced, they tend to be heavy, especially when you compare them with regular ABS and PBT keys. In fact, you’ll be able to find artisan keycaps where a single key can weigh 1.28 oz (32.2 g). Things that are genuinely useful to consider though are boards that make some accommodation for cable location. For example, if your nearest USB port is on the left of your computer, it might be a pain if the keyboard’s port is on it’s right side. Some keyboards have multiple ports. Some, such as the WASD mentioned at the outset have channels built into the case so you can route the cable however you like. That’s a feature I don’t see often enough from other brands but I certainly miss it when it isn’t there. Cable routing is nice addition, helping to prevent excess cable across your desktop. A couple disclaimers: there is some variation in how people define the downweights -- for example, the weight necessary for the key to move some distance, ignoring sound triggering. I've defined it as the distance necessary to just trigger the sound, as I think that's the most objective way to do it, and the easiest to copy. Hotswap and programmable keyboards are getting more and more common but they remain largely a feature of ‘build your own’ keyboards. Building your own keyboard is a whole other related topic beyond the remit of this article. But be sure to let us know if that is a topic you’d like us to cover. ANSI Or ISO Now, before we get much further into this, I feel it’s my duty to be quite candid. I often read people justifying mechanical keyboards due to the fact that they ‘last longer’. Whilst this is possibly true, I don’t ever remember wearing a keyboard out. And you could probably buy a lifetime of budget keyboards and still have change left compared to the costs of a mechanical keyboard. Adding an insert at the bottom of the case is one way to increase the weight. Depending on the keyboard, the insert can also improve the weight balance, enhancing the feel of the peripheral. Related, an interesting additional measurement (but with no easy way to measure that I can think of off-hand) would be the time between releasing a fully depressed key and when it comes to rest at the top of the travel with no further bounce.I'm pretty sure the high measures for the low key are some byproduct of the way the edge of the keybed differs from the more uniform situation of having adjacent keys on each side. Perhaps there's something brushing the key lightly on the exposed side? Unclear. The next lowest natural key seemed more in line with Mid C and the highest note, which makes sense since this isn't supposed to be a graded action. Sadly, there’s no tenkeyless (without a numberpad) version, so make sure you have the desk space to accommodate the Razer if it takes your fancy.

This is only referring to the mass-produced keycaps. If you were to go for artisanal keycaps, the weight of the keycaps could vary significantly.whether the piano's action is properly adjusted (or regulated) or not, the design of the instrument, room acoustics, and even the weather,

What are Weighted Keys and Why Do They Matter?

I've sorted these by descending downweight mass. Some observations: there is a lot of variation from key to key within each board, and between boards with the same action (for example the Yamaha CP73, the keys were pretty variable across the board). Also, the only fully acoustic action in this list is the Yamaha NU1X, a hybrid board with a real upright action, but no strings. Interestingly it had the lightest action, and also the most sluggish (lowest upweight because of the friction of the moving parts). Many vintage pianos, including Steinways made in the first half of the twentieth century, may have developed a problem technicians call vertigris, where for It’s a bit of a triumph of style over substance, but there’s no denying it’s just about the most unusual keyboard you can own and is surprisingly satisfying to use once you’ve got the hang of it.

Then you multiply the number of coins of each type by their mass in grams to get the total grams in both weights. instrument (playing it often enough or long enough so that the centers loosen up). On some pianos, though, this can take an inordinately long time: Often
