About this deal

For Pyrrhonists however, such a position was not just a philosophical exercise. They extended this way of thinking to their entire lives so it became a mindset called epoché, translated as suspension of judgement. This suspension of judgement then led to the mental state of ataraxia, often translated as tranquility. Ultimately, from the Pyrrhonist perspective, “I know that I know nothing” can mean “truth cannot be discovered”. 4) I know that I know nothing – the paradox

When You Know Nothing but Think You Know Everything

Strong's 4314: To, towards, with. A strengthened form of pro; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. Toward.Like feeling the sharp sting of a taut rubber band aimed at your sensitive skin.....again and again and again. These self-evident truths act as foundations stones that allow knowledge to be built upon. 2) I know that I know nothing, because the physical world isn’t real What makes Pyrrhonists different is that instead of saying “yes this is a color, and that color is green”, they will simply say “yes, this is a color, but I’m not sure which so I’d rather not say.”

I KNOW EVERYTHING | Kirkus Reviews

I’m not too sure about the medical aspects of the book and the way mental illness is discussed but I can’t say more without spoiling. What I didn’t like was the scenes of tortures and deaths of women shown so we feel sorry for the men in their lives. It just feels tiring at this point. Also the book ends with a reference to the author’s previous book which got me confused as I haven’t read it before. I think if readers are willing to overlook the science and just go for the ride it makes for an engrossing read. One interesting interpretation of “I know that I know nothing”, is that the phrase could actually belong to Plato, alluding to one of his ideas: the theory of forms.

Final Thoughts on Identifying and Dealing With a Know-It-All

I was not too sure if this book was aimed at someone like me. I found it very hard to relate to a lot of Dolly’s experiences, especially her rather privileged posh middle-class to upper-class upbringing (boarding and private schools), her ease of writing and passing uni easily, as well as her extroverted personality. None of these things I could relate to, however, despite this, I was able to find some relatability in terms of questioning everything you do, self-consciousness and being critical of every aspect of your person, as well as the process of being jealous of friends who seem to have it all together. you're too hard on yourself," she said. "you can do long-term love. you've done it better than anyone i know." I seem, then, in just this little thing to be wiser than this man at any rate, that what I do not know I do not think I know either. [from the Henry Cary literal translation of 1897]
