About this deal

A vintage Marshall amplifier head can help create the perfect sound in the bass and midrange levels. If you are an audiophile, you might long for good detail and presence which will include all the instrumental textures and timbres, which are provided by this headphone. The set creaks a little too much for comfort, but that was again an issue on my Massdrop HD6xx that stopped almost entirely after a few hundred hours of usage. The same will happen with this HD58x. The separation on mids and bass is average. I found it not enough, and it contributes to a poor sense of detail. I could hear all parts of my music though; think of it like a fuzzy picture. Sound bleeds together even though its all there. The treble escapes this poor separation however.

But make no mistake, a wonky tuning cannot and must not be handwaved off as being simply unique. The HD8XX is, in terms of tonal balance, definitely up there in terms of Sennheiser’s strangest. If we were to use the HD6X0 as the reference for “correctness” (not saying that it is, just as an example due to the HD6XX being the prime comparison point in this situation), you can see how a 10dB(!) recession at 2kHz can be a… cause for concern.I’m thankful to be one of the very first to have the final production units in hand, and as a HD800 fanboy myself this is certainly one of the more exciting releases in my book. But I’m sure you’re all tired of the expositions so let’s just cut to the chase. Among all the audio brands in the market, the Sennheiser is one of the most esteemed brands. They have been producing very nice and quality headphones for quite some time and their headphones have met the needs of audiophiles in a great way. Recently they have released two different models of headphones which are Sennheiser HD6XX and Sennheiser HD650. As it is an upgraded version of the HD650, they have similarities in their design. And it is also similarly really good in performance; as a result, the HG6XX has taken a grand entry in the world of audio. However, there has been some change too. As HD6XX is an upgrade from HD650, it might have some upper hand, but both are great in their own ways. So, you can choose any of them for your audio needs. They won’t disappoint for sure if you deeply care for audio quality. As a result, it might not give the sound you want if you connect it with your phone. It will be good to use with computers, however, you will still need an app for that so that you can get the exact sound you need.

It is quite comfortable when I put it over my head and ear. It covered all over my ears and the soft velvet(?) is pretty comfortable. It is a little bit tight but not as tight as M50x. I won't feel uncomfortable for several hours. Compared to ATH AD1000x and AKG K7xx, it is tighter than those two.

Reviews

Four years ago there was even a meme on the then-fabled HD8XX (with an entire saga between said memer and Massdrop thereafter), and years after that the masses continued clamouring on and on for the HD6XX-equivalent to the HD800. For years the community heard nothing… right up to the beginning of 2021. The 6xx is relaxed and inoffensive. At no point using these did I find my music sharp or sounding unsettlingly wrong. There is a pleasant amount of note weight on this set, especially the mid bass. I have no qualms about the mids, and actually, found the mid treble very adequate and correct timbrally. The Sennheiser HD650 has a very good sound quality as the sound distortion is very low. Though a little high-frequency coloration might occur, it is not that much to care about. The bass sound is really warm and good and the details of the sounds can listen in an exceptional manner. You’re not expecting much, I’m not expecting much, so let’s just rip the band-aid off. Obviously, the sub-bass response of the KSC75 is its biggest weakness that cannot be fixed with mere EQ, so don’t get one if you value dat rumble in your music.

And there is another problem. As discussed earlier, it isn’t good enough for mobile phones. But for also portability reasons you might want to use it with computers only. So if you only want to use a headphone in your room to enjoy music with great sound quality, then this is for you. From the headband, the velvet-lined ear pads distribute the spring force very comfortably and there’s also plenty of depth to the earpieces. The earpieces fit really well on the ears and cope well with sudden head movements. And the lead is immune to friction noises, which is impressive.I guess i find myself unfairly putting the HD6XX down because it doesnt appear to me like a 'proper' factory Sennheiser headphone despite the general consensus on this forum being that theyre essentially interchangeable. Any insight from members who own one or both of the models would be appreciated. I dont own either (instead owning the Grado SR325i amped with a Fiio A5) but i have always wanted a HD650 and want to know whether i should consider the HD6XX as a solid contender but will get the HD650 if it offers more. The HD560S can be described as simply “neutral”. Some may argue that it’s closer to being “bright-neutral”, but in comparison to something like the HD800S it’s not as peaky. So, if you are okay with these facts, then you should go for this headphone as the sound quality itself is a lot for the headphone. Final Words In these formative days of headphone audiophilea I recall being at a meet in College Park, MD where there were a number of HD600s and HD650s. We were auditioning cables by Cardas, Stefan AudioArt and other DIY concoctions including pure silver cables. It was amazing what a difference the cable could make to the signature.
