About this deal

Aside from employing technologies that ensure the quality of the headphone themselves, HarmonicDyne also ensured that they used a high-quality cable. The cable is made of OCC ultra-high purity copper that ensures rich mids and a punchy bassline.

The first issue that I’ve encountered is that the ear pads are staying exactly on top of the metal screws around the silicon ears of the MiniDSP EARS system, thus breaking the seal and recording a non-representative frequency response. I re-measured them more than 15 times after finding the perfect spot on the test jig, no side-pressure was applied on the earcups as they stayed in their natural position. A huge standout of this headphone for me was detail retrieval and transparency, it was almost unbelievable the amount micro-detail coming out of them. Zeus is a technical sounding headphone, it’s almost robotic at times, arranging everything in the scenery, positioning all the notes at their right places. Yet, there is a bit of naturalness and warmth too, not a whole lot of it, but enough to satisfy a Jazz and Blues addict like myself. Comfort: The pads are indeed very nice but the clamping force is extremely high and uncomfortable for me. You could possibly stretch them but out of the box very strong clamping force. The pads are deep but not deep enough like most headphones in my opinion. You will touch the inside slightly, there won't be pressure on your ears but you will still touch it. It could possibly be deep enough if you remove the mesh from the pads but then the driver is exposed and hair will get in more easily. I find the Phoenix sound to be more neutral. The Zeus do have a bit more treble and more air than the Phoenix, yet realizing this is not obvious due to the punchier mid bass from the Zeus. Both headphones sound very nice. Neither headphone has any wildly uncontrolled and piercingly harsh sounding resonant frequencies in the treble region. This is important in terms of preventing listening fatigue. This also is a good indicator of well thought out design and good tuning. This is the first time I can talk about an excellent overall value. The Zeus has what I could call perfect 10/10 value. The sound is simply too good, and if you didn’t tell me what they cost, I could’ve easily placed them in the same group as HIFIMAN Ananda, and have paid 800 USD for them. But happily, they don’t cost that, but 350 USD, which is really really low for the sound they are able to produce. According to the specs sheet, the Poseidon can reach down to 10Hz, and I believe that it can. However, when it comes to the sub-bass, there is an evident roll-off in the overall sub-bass quantity which results in a dispersed sub-bass quality.

HarmonicDyne Zeus - Linsoul Audio

Harmonic Dyne Zeus + iBasso DX220MAX (350 USD + 1880 USD) – Dx220 MAX is just the type of DAP that can put a ton of punch into the Zeus, but still make them musical and wide. The sound is really powerful and controlled, with a ton of sub-lows and impact, a warm-ish midrange, and a ton of space. The treble is somewhat smooth and relaxed, but really detailed, while the midrange is juicy and vivid. It was unusual seeing Zeus beating the S4X at pretty much any measurements: Zeus driver matching is much better, its THD is lower and its spectral decay is faster. I’ve also recorded a higher ringing of the driver on S4X especially in the bass, that wasn’t present on the Zeus. To deliver Hi-Fi products that surpass the norm in terms of both Sound Quality and visual intrigue.” – LinsoulFor those who don’t have anything that takes 4.4mm though, HarmonicDyne has also provided with the Zeus an adaptor to 3.5mm and an adaptor from 3.5mm to ¼”. At any rate, the presentation is a 10/10, excellent really. The cable is of a good quality, with some caveats, and the earpads excellent, although a second pair would’ve been awesome. The unboxing experience with Poseidon really makes you feel that you have something special in your hands.

HarmonicDyne Zeus Review - Soundnews

The major change between the Helios and the Zeus hides inside. Although the 50mm drivers appear identical from the front, the technical specifications point out why the Zeus sounds so different.Well, this gear has changed that POV, as this is the one you want if you are looking for just SQ and affordability, and you are not needing a bass canon or microscopes for your ears. Both the Zeus and Poseidon are warmer and darker sounding than the Helios, however, the change in drivers seems to have added just a little more air and sparkle to the Poseidon. It’s a change for the better, IMO, and the smooth signature hasn’t been lost, just subtly improved upon.

Apart from scale that wasn’t as grand and to the dip in the upper midrange, there is little to complain about these. Detail and resolution could put to shame headphones costing more and the same can be said about the rest of its technicalities. Its sort of like the difference between Digital photography, vs, a Film Camera and Film, specifically Kodachrome. Applying a 1/12 smoothing, I am getting this graph and as you can see, the sub-bass is good, mid-bass is absolutely perfect clearly standing out, midrange is mostly linear but it sees a gentle slope until upper-midrange is hit with a roll-off. Treble is calm and relaxed in the most sensitive part (between 4 and 6 kHz) and immediately after that it gets higher momentum and becomes much stronger and defined. There is a lot of presence in the top octave that gives an impression of a detailed and transparent sound. As you can see, Zeus was tuned towards an enjoyable experience, in detriment of a super-linear, super extended frequency response. Damage due to user negligence, accidents, disassembly, waterlog, misuse, abuse, alterations or vandalism. So, i notced that the one cable supplied is balanced but it offers the correct adaptors if case you dont do balanced.

The wood inserts on the plastic pieces of the headphone are also a nice touch, and they look quite natural. The headband on the other hand has nice adjustment mechanisms that have metal inserts. The adjustment of the headband is smooth while being firm enough so that they won’t need constant adjustment every time the headphone is worn. Compared to the very low-end biased Meze 99 Classics, (as expected) the Zeus has less bass quantity, but I would not consider the Zeus bass-shy at all. They come across as brighter than the 99 Classics overall, but there is plenty of low-end thump for EDM or other low-frequency focused genres. Midrange The included cable is an ultra-high purity OCC copper wire. It has a braided fabric sheath below the Y-split and transparent TPU insulation above the split. It has excellent strain relief from top to bottom and aluminium components. You end up with a lengthy Frankenstein contraption that’s really long and rather cumbersome but I kinda like its quirkiness. Generally, it’s a high-quality cable although the handling could be better. Sound The most obvious comparison would be with Ollo S4X which is a semi-open headphone that I’ve reviewed last year, it is a really good monitoring type of headphone that I’m enjoying immensely for quite some time.
