About this deal

This might confuse some people, as I said I was going to compare with cheaper options, and the Smeg ECF01 is slightly more expensive than the Gaggia Carezza, but it's actually almost identical internally to the DeLonghi Dedica. Inside the machine, there are pressurised filter baskets that ensure consistent and full-bodied espresso shots every time. The double-walled pressurized Crema Perfetta filter basket creates a dense and creamy layer of foam on top of each shot. Gaggia Carezza Deluxe is supposed to be the most trustworthy espresso machine users have ever noticed. The contemporary users are consummately unacquainted with this machine so they are mostly waiting for the opinion of the prior users on how easy it is to make barista, espresso, lattes or cappuccinos with this very espresso machine. Users provide all the positive and constructive opinions about this espresso machine. It has a button for steam, it has a dial for steam and hot water, a rinse button, and an on/off button, and that's all there is in terms of interface, so very little in terms of bells and whistles. The milk frother does carry somewhat of a slight learning curve, so you might have to endure a few rounds of airy foam at the beginning before you master how to create the right consistency for your crema.

The Gaggia Carezza Deluxe uses a pre-brewing and pre-heating process that can make it feel as though you’re at the whim of the thing’s temperamental nature a little. Odd little pauses following button commands and slightly unpredictable breaks in the delivery of hot water and steam make operation seem quirky and slightly inconsistent.De-scale every 2-3 months(monthly if you live in a very hard water area) as machine is not covered by guarantee for scaling. All espresso machines must be “DESCALED” regularly. Filtered water or bottled water is free from chemical odours but not free from minerals. Using a water softener is the best option for mineral free water. If a water softener is not installed, then the best option is to descale the machine at least every 2-months. Gaggia spa recommends using the Gaggia Descaler for descaling your machine. Do not rely on the machine to remind you when descaling is due. When available, this feature is programmed by the number of espresso's served. The machine cannot sense the variable hardness of water from one part of the country to another. Follow a definite schedule for descaling every two months. Please DO NOT use vinegar or lemon juice for descaling as a residue will remain on the inside of the boiler which will be hard to get rid off and your coffee will end up with a taste of vinegar or lemon. As a largely traditional espresso machine, the design caters primarily for smaller espresso cups, and the portafilter height is fixed, but there is enough room to fit a mug if you like your coffee Americano-style.

If you're just looking for the best short-term value for money, then I'd say it's the Gran or the Viva, as they'll produce almost the same cup quality. They're smaller than the Carezza, lighter, they look and feel cheaper in my opinion (they are, though, so I think that's fair), and they come with the same pressurized portafilter but are both available with the traditional portafilter.

So given that I've been asked about the Gaggia Carezza a few times, a machine that I just thought looked really old-fashioned and was probably just in their range still because they're sentimental and don't like discontinuing stuff, I thought I'd better get hold of one and see if I was wrong about that too…
