About this deal

Also if I use my smart tv to access to recordings I can find them under devices then foxsat but Sony's inbuilt video player plays only some of them, can't play some and some it just plays the video without any sound. Any idea what would cause that?

Standard definition BBC broadcasts and most other channels look as good on the Humax as they do on Freeview and Sky. HUMAX products use certain open source operating system software distributed pursuant to GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE Version 2 and GNU LESSER GENERAL LICENSE Version 2.1 each as defined and published by the Free Software Foundation, Inc. The Humax FOXSAT-HDR, uses a Linux operating system and the hard drive is formatted using the EXT2 file system. Thanks Graham I can finally see them after reinstalling Twonky4 media server under root video folders but now I have more questions than before Sky's EPG only allows you to enter the first letter of a programme, which is about as welcome as a Woolworth's gift token. Overall, it's a classy looking machine that's reassuringly well built. Inside is a 320GB hard disk that can store about 80 hours of HD programming or 200 hours of standard-definition (or somewhere in between for a mixture of the two formats). So this is a little embarassing but the upshot is I now have two working Humax. I did try the system flush before but assumed it wasn't working. However, as I soon found after delivery of the replacement Humax that both of the PSUs were working fine I began to be suspicious as to the thoroughness of my original troubleshooting. As it turned out, reading the instructions properly really helps and I was using a NTFS format USB not a FAT32 format when trying to flush the system. Once this was rectified, the system flush worked like a dream so for the benefit of other people looking for help in the future, definitely give that a go having read the instructions properly before you either a). despair or b). spend any money on bits. The Humax Foxsat HDR can record over 200 hours of standard TV and up to 100 hours of high definition TV effortlessly. Even when you fill the very generous 500gb hardrive on the Humax Foxsat HDR there is a USB slot enabling you to save your favourite TV programs or films to an external hardrive or PC. The Humax FOXSAT-HDR can record two channels at the same time. You can start watching a programme that is being recorded from its beginning even though the rest of the programme is still being recorded (chase play). This Freesat & Freesat+ Setup Guide is based on the Humax FOXSAT-HD and Humax FOXSAT-HDR receivers, Setup on other brands and models may vary, see your Instruction Manual for details.

My faithful HDR Fox T2 appears to have finally given up the ghost as it enters a crash/reboot loop on power up. Thanks to guidance from this forum I am very sure it is not the HDD as this still happens with it removed. I'm also very sure it isn't the front panel as I was able to borrow the one from my emergency replacement DTR T1000. Also thanks to this forum I have secured and decrypted offline all recordings (thanks for that!)With the custom firmware, non-Freesat channels can be added to the Freesat EPG. Unfortunately no EPG programme information is available for non-Freesat channels. The quality of standard-definition pictures on this box compares very well with those of Sky and Freeview, but as with any digital TV platform the quality varies wildly depending on the broadcast quality – ITV channels, for example, look awful but the BBC’s roster looks a lot sharper and cleaner. Please note that once you perform Freesat Tune, all Freesat channels will be deleted. Select Yes and press the OK button to delete all freesat channels. The signal strength and quality are high. If severe weather conditions or your location are affecting reception, for example, the software update should be postponed until signal strength and quality are favourable again.

Picture quality is generally impressive but far from perfect. Hi-def broadcasts on the BBC HD channel look magnificent, boasting masses of detail and a wide range of rich, vibrant colours – best demonstrated by clips of the Beeb’s beautifully shot wildlife programmes. Movement is smooth with minimal pixel noise and clean edge definition helps the image look crisp and forceful at all times. In a direct comparison with a Sky HD box, there’s very little difference in quality between the two, making this a superb way of getting hi-def channels. With a 320GB hard drive, the Humax FOXSAT-HDR is capable of recording about 200 hours of standard definition programmes, or around 80 hours in high definition (HD). The receiver can collect the whole Freesat 7 day electronic programme guide (EPG) in around 30 seconds.ITV, however, is a problem. Its broadcast bit-rate is often much lower than the BBC's and it frankly looks dire in standard-definition on Freesat. We haven't seen an ITV HD broadcast yet in the few hours since installing the Foxsat-HDR but previous broadcasts viewed on the non-PVR version were superb. Type in your postcode, this will decide which BBC One and ITV region you receive. Verifying your postcode, this is part of the Freesat software, you can use any UK postcode. Also is there any way to auto convert recordings? I am still manually converting them to get the DLNA logo to stream.

The unit constantly records up to two hours of TV into a buffer memory, which allows you to pause and rewind live TV, but sadly you can’t retrospectively record programmes from the buffer. You can also start watching a programme before it has finished recording, or ‘chase play’ in marketing speak. My personal experience of Sony TVs is that the built in DLNA client is pretty poor. Perhaps the reason some play and some don't is related to the content of the recording. For example, maybe the Sony client can't play certain types of audio and can only play recordings with "simple" stereo audio. As part of its Freesat+ branding, the Foxsat-HDR includes numerous useful recording features. It will automatically adjust the start and end times of recordings if the beginning of a programme is delayed or moved to a different time slot. You can record a whole season with a single button press, and the Humax will record a repeat of a particular episode if its original broadcast clashes with previously set recordings. Finally, the Foxsat-HDR will recognise when a programme has been split, (as some films are by the news) and record both halves. These features rely on broadcasters providing updated scheduling information, but we had no problems when recording shows on popular channels from the BBC and ITV. The menu system shows how outdated Sky's system is now. The EPG is a revelation with high-resolution graphics and icons and as it's overlaid you can carry on watching a show whilst navigating the EPG.You must be talking about the custom firmware add on available from AV Forums. There are too many options to discuss here. It's actually very easy to set up and use. How are you people streaming your recordings on your smart TV, as not everyone has android built in tv?
