About this deal

Wait for 60 seconds (including stir time) to allow for steeping. Start to push down on the plunger, maintaining a constant pressure. Due to the pressure release valve’s small aperture and the finer grind, the plunger will put up a bit more resistance than the standard AeroPress method. When you reach the coffee bed, stop. After 90 seconds of total brew time (I’m using a medium roast here, FWIW), I’m ready to fill my glass. If you use the inverted method, you’ve got the plunger inserted already. You can attach the prismo before placing it in the fridge, creating an air-tight container. If you don’t have one, then a regular mug is fine so long as its internal diameter of its opening can fit an AeroPress. (I believe I measured it to a range of 65mm-90mm, but don’t quote me on that.) For example, some people say that you must use a metal mesh filter. Others say they can get the same result with a paper filter.

It will grind more efficiently at espresso fineness (like the Prismo needs) and will give you better brews with all other methods, too. There’s no adjustmentThis could be due to being accustomed to the taste profile, and my brain subconsciously preferred that. Boom! I told you it was irresistible, right? Tried it out? Let me know all about it in the comments below. Anyone who has used the AeroPress and brews regular-style knows that some coffee always exits the chamber before you press on the plunger. However, with that said, the Prismo filter is incredibly thin, so only time will tell if it will withstand the rigorous daily pressure exerted on it. What’s better than coffee? Coffee with ice-cream! This recipe is not exactly using espresso, as the standard recipe calls for. Hence the name. But it’s definitely the next best thing.

Fellow is a San Francisco based company that’s best known for their coffee kettles, but has branched out into a wide range of specialty coffee gear, like the Prismo. You attach the Prismo to the bottom of an Aeropress as an alternative to the standard Aeropress piece. It has a re-usable metal filter with a rubber seal that fits inside and a pressure activated valve with a single opening on the outside. Start your timer. Then pour your 50mls of boiling water into the AeroPress chamber slowly, 10-20 seconds is good. It’s important the water is boiling (212˚F / 100˚C) and that you don’t go over 50mls here, as it can ruin the shot. While it would be a little sneaky, it would also be revolutionary! It would mean you can produce a crema with an AeroPress. You Can Get Crema With An AeroPress! Supercharge your AeroPress with the Fellow Prismo. The Prismo is a pressure-actuated valve which is designed to be used with the AeroPress® Coffee Maker. This attachment produces a buildup of pressure to brew coffee which has a consistency closer to espresso than the AeroPress can make on its own.

The flavor effect can be significant. Higher turbidity typically results in a heavier, more full-bodied coffee. This can be desirable for some coffee drinkers, particularly those who enjoy darker roasts or more robust flavors.Being that the AeroPress already does a fantastic job at creating some amazing espresso-like coffee, I questioned whether the Fellow Prismo attachment could bring it even closer to matching the flavor of a traditional espresso machine.

This might seem like a strange thing to mention, considering that I started by talking about how great it is to have a metal filter, but the advantage is that you can choose to add a paper filter on top of the metal one for an even cleaner full immersion brew. Should you get the Fellow Prismo?Unfortunately, in reality, it didn’t succeed. The valve in the Prismo is just too easy to activate, so you don’t produce a high amount of bars before liquid starts flowing. It’s a modestly-priced AeroPress attachment that uses a very simple valve to increase plunging pressure. Its metal filter is reusable and helps create a more espresso-like flavor profile. The Prismo won’t overcome physics to make real espresso, but it’s a fun and clever way to get a little closer.
