About this deal

This book has changed all that for me. It presents the science behind this in a way that meets the needs of even sceptics like me. Simply and in enough detail to give an understanding of how all this incredibly complicated biochemistry works without making your eyes glaze over

The Fat Emperor with Ivor Cummins

This book is so full of great information such as why we are getting heavier and heavier, insulin as a master gauge of chronic disease, fixing heart disease, the truth about cholesterol that you Dr’s not telling you, meal planning, and some of the most delicious recipes, one of which I have for you today. For IR patients (insulin resistant) meal spacing will increase hunger unless you are on diet medications. To not mention the PCSK9 treatment option reflects a very biased approach to the medical treatment of high ApoB (lipoprotein particles) Low Leptin tells your brain you are starving. Several mechanisms including decreased thermogenesis and increased Ghrelin (increased hunger) are 2 ways Leptin causes slow weight regain even on a reduced calorie diet over the long term. Nutritional sacred cows are constantly being challenged in the media. How much fat should we eat -- and which kinds of fats are best? Which fats can contribute to diabetes, heart disease, and early mortality? Does a high-protein diet increase muscle mass and lead to vigorous health – or can it promote aging, cancer, and early mortality? Which vitamins and minerals should we be taking, if any? How do we change our metabolism so that our bodies burn fat instead of all the sugars we consume? Does intermittent fasting really work? Eat Rich, Live Long lays out the truth based on the latest scientific research.

Success!

I have been on LCHF since reading Gary Taubes book, Why We Get Fat: And What To Do About It in Jan 2012. We have been helping our patients improve their health and optimize their weight with prescribed lifestyle modification. We redefine healthy nutrition and teach patients about the relationship between unhealthy refined and processed foods and chronic illness. The science of carbohydrate and fat metabolism, insulin resistance, inflammation and chronic metabolic disease is revealing.” The second wonderful message is the importance of a CAC (Coronary Calcium CT) to determine risk for cardiovascular event along with scoring the usual risk factors. You can take control of your health, lose weight, prevent disease, and enjoy a long and healthy life. The unique nutritional program outlined in Eat Rich, Live Long is designed by experts to help you feel great while you eat delicious and satisfying foods.

p354 "people with verified FH (familial hypercholesterolemia) should discuss PREVENTATIVE treatment options with a specialist in the field" Dr. Gerber trained at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and graduated in 1986. He completed a medical Residency in Family Medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital in 1990 and was board certified in Family Medicine in 1991. Dr. Gerber sits for the Family Medicine re-certification exam every ten years and attends continuing medical education programs on a regular basis. He is Level II certified by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to treat work related injuries. Obesity and overweight are truly the resultant symptoms of chronic metabolic disease, ultimately caused by the many inflammatory foods in our diet. Blaming behavior (that we eat too much and exercise too little) for why we get fat is a short-sighted explanation, especially when considering our present day understanding of metabolism.”Thus if someone has 5% cardiovascular risk and a positive CAC (1 or>), they need to lower their ApoB <80 or LDLp < 1,000. I think this book provides excellent advice. I have that opinion because in one book it contains a summary and expansion on good, accurate, improved dietary advice and the history of why we have been given bad advice for so long based on flawed research, forceful personalities, and suppressed / ignored research that disagreed with the so-called "experts" that I have read about in many other books over the past couple of years. Books by; Gary Taubes, John Yudkin, Robert Lustig, Jason Fung, Nina Teicholz, Timothy Noakes, and several others. And this book mostly agrees with those books and condenses the information into one volume. Dr. Gerber is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, the Obesity Action Coalition, the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians, the Colorado Medical Society, the Arapahoe-Douglas-Elbert Medical Society and the Weston A. Price Foundation. P262 EAT RICH LIVE LONG APOB/APO1: The Master Ratio. There are many problems with ratios. Suffice to say non-HDL cholesterol is much better. Get it under 80. The advice to have a CAC, coronary artery calcium scan done to find your CAS Score. I have been a radiation worker for forty years, six years with nuclear reactors, and 34 years working on diagnostic imaging equipment, X-ray machines. X-rays are not harmless, the more people who receive more exposure than absolutely necessary the more people who may suffer health issues caused by the radiation exposure. Dr. Gerber is also the co-organizer of Low Carb Conferences, a yearly educational event for healthcare professionals and anyone else interested in learning about the latest science related to diet and health. CME (Continuing Medical Education) credit is offered to healthcare professionals. The authors neglect the science that the excess fat cells the obese have never disappear even with Bariatric surgery. The large number of shrunken fat cells in the reduced obese have a very low leptin level. This does not work. You cannot stay on a diet for life if you are always hungry unless you are the 5% in the NWCR (National weight control registry) From chapter 10 – There are two rules in Longevity Club. The first rule of Longevity Club is, respect your insulin. The second rule of Longevity Club is … respect your insulin. Jeffry N. Gerber, MD, FAAFP is a board-certified family physician and owner of South Suburban Family Medicine in Littleton, Colorado. He is widely known as Denver’s Diet Doctor. Dr. Gerber has been providing personalized healthcare to to his community since 1993 and continues that tradition with an emphasis on longevity, wellness, and prevention. This book is transformational, for me at least. Like anyone reading this I've read a lot of books on healthy eating etc and have changed my eating regime tohigher fat, lower carb natural foods. Only foods my grandmother would recognise. And I knew that Type 2 diabetes is a result of insulin resistance which tself is a result of eating badly and particularly eating high carb. I found out about this book by watching an interview with one of the authors, Ivor Cummins, on YouTube. I would never have looked at the book based on the title/cover.

I am Board Certified in the American Board of Obesity Medicine. I think any diet can lose weight. The challenge is maintaining that weight loss by finding a diet that is ad libitum and can be maintained for life. I think they are reacting to the Ancel Keys disastrous seaqueway to high carbohydrate low fat diets as the only healthy diet. Dr. Gerber’s book, Eat Rich, Live Long, on chronic disease, root causes and resolution strategies (co-authored with chemical engineer and data scientist Ivor Cummins) was released February 2018. Millions of people have gotten healthy through low-carb plans over the years--and a growing number have discovered the wonderful benefits of ketogenic (Keto) nutrition. Many are confused, though, about how low-carb they should go.
