About this deal

When you have lost someone you love Do not make the mistake of living in sadness, or living small to honour their absence. Our thoughts can so easily 'think' us into chaos. Donna's beautiful words never fail to meet us there within our jumbled reality. Words that give comfort, perspective, empathy and love. It's like she reaches into my soul and shows me 'it's okay'.

The Right Words: when you need them most: Ashworth, Donna

It’s not that the poems are anything but sugared almonds—they will not hurt you, but they will feel and taste chalky to other poets and readers. The poems use truncated lines, so they *look* like poems, but many of them are just chopped prose. Lots of declaratives and cliches and gentle encouragements to aging women raising kids.I have read this book, along with 2 others Life and Love as a poetry collection and have reviewed them together so this review will appear duplicated for the other 2 books Our thoughts can so easily ‘think’ us into chaos. Donna’s beautiful words never fail to meet us there within our jumbled reality. Words that give comfort, perspective, empathy and love. It’s like she reaches into my soul and shows me ‘it’s okay’.

Goodreads Loss: Poems to better weather the many waves of grief - Goodreads

THE LOSS OF A MOTHER is a really good one and I took a deep breath expecting to really tear up as my own mum died quite recently but it was THE LOSS OF A FATHER that made me the most emotional, the one that had me nodding in agreement with its words and sentiment, especially with the part where your father has already planted the answers you seek etc Short funeral poem by Margaret Mead, ideal for a eulogy. The words are a message of remembrance and love in times of grief. This is a state of being like no other we have ever known because we are all going through it together but so very far apart. This poem by Rabindranath Tagore is a reflection on the narrator’s contentment with his life and gratitude to his or her friends for their companionship and support. The poem ends with a hope that they will live on after death in the memory of these friends. This episode was a joy to make. Donna reads six of her poems for us, tugging at our heart strings as we go. She shares the astonishing fact that her artistry is not the product of endless tweaks and revisions. Her poems arrive overnight, fully-formed for delivery in the morning, her first drafts her final drafts. When the mood strikes, send out all those messages and don’t feel you have to apologise for being quiet. Love is an energy, so powerful, so all-consuming that when the person you felt all that love for is not here, you are a vessel filled with a boundless source of power that has nowhere to go.
