About this deal

Most dolomite was formed as a magnesium replacement of limestone or of lime mud before lithification. [1] The geological process of conversion of calcite to dolomite is known as dolomitization and any intermediate product is known as dolomitic limestone. [2] [3] The "dolomite problem" refers to the vast worldwide depositions of dolomite in the past geologic record in contrast to the limited amounts of dolomite formed in modern times. [4] [5] Recent research has revealed sulfate-reducing bacteria living in anoxic conditions precipitate dolomite which indicates that some past dolomite deposits may be due to microbial activity. [6] [7] Boggs, Sam (2006). Principles of sedimentology and stratigraphy (4thed.). Upper Saddle River, N.J.: Pearson Prentice Hall. pp.160–161. ISBN 0131547283. Pale di San Martino: You can enter the Val Venegia, or you can walk along the Val Canali, which can be reached in a short time from Fiera di Primiero. While near the centre of San Martino di Castrozza, you can take the Cabinovia Colverde (cable car) that takes you to the foot of the Pale di San Martino and to the mountain hut having the same name; or you can choose the Funivia Rosetta (cableway) that takes you to the Altopiano delle Pale, the start point of many hikes. From there, you can reach Rifugio Pedrotti alla Rosetta. Mineral dolomite has a 12% to 13% smaller volume than calcite per alkali cation. Thus dolomitization likely increases porosity and contributes to the sugary texture of dolomite. [16] The dolomite problem and primary dolomite [ edit ] Yes, of course you can. There are many facilities that offer hospitality to tourists visiting the Dolomites, such as rifugi ( mountain huts). These facilities are situated high up in the mountains and are organised in such a way as to accommodate mountain climbers and hikers. Obviously, they don’t have all the facilities of a traditional hotel, but there is no comparison to waking up in the heart of the Dolomites! The huts are usually open from 20 June to 20 September, but these dates can change according to the weather conditions. Some advice: if you decide to sleep in a mountain hut, take a sleeping bag or a sleeping bag liner with you, as in the CAI-run huts it is obligatory to have them!

Dolomite takes its name from the 18th-century French mineralogist Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu (1750–1801), who was one of the first to describe the mineral. [8] [9] Draper, Robert (2015-08-16). "In Italy, Hiking and Haute Cuisine in the Dolomites - The New York Times". The New York Times . Retrieved 2020-04-18. Dolomite is supersaturated in normal seawater by a factor of greater than ten, but dolomite is not seen to precipitate in the oceans. Likewise, geologists have not been successful at precipitating dolomite from seawater at normal temperatures and pressures in laboratory experiments. This is likely due to a very high activation energy for nucleating crystals of dolomite. [32]

The intense summer trip up some of the most fascinating and representative mountain faces in the Dolomites, such as the Brenta group, the Rosengarten, the Pale di San Martino, the Sella and, obvioulsy, the queen of them all, the Marmolada. The trip will be documented with photos, route topos and vide interviews with the first ascentionists. And despite the unstable weather, "DoloMitiche - outdoor works of art" is in full swing and five routes are already online. Roger. "Walks and Via Ferrata in the Dolomites". CommunityWalk.com. Dolomite outcrops are recognized in the field by their softness (mineral dolomite has a Mohs hardness of 4 or less, well below common silicate minerals) and because dolomite bubbles feebly when a drop of dilute hydrochloric acid is dropped on it. This distinguishes dolomite from limestone, which is also soft but reacts vigorously with dilute hydrochloric acid. Dolomite usually weathers to a characteristic dull yellow-brown color due to the presence of ferrous iron. This is released and oxidized as the dolomite weathers. [14] Dolomite is usually granular in appearance, with a texture resembling grains of sugar. [15]Koch, Amy Tara (25 November 2019). Marmolada: You can leave from Canazei and continue up to Passo Fedaia, where, once you reach the pass (2.057 m a.s.l.), you will see the mountain reflected in the waters of artificial Lake Fedaia.
