The new standard includes mandatory Dual-mode for DVI and HDMI adapters, implementing the HDMI 2.0 standard and HDCP 2.2 content protection. In April 2013, VESA published an article stating that the DisplayPort cable certification did not have distinct tiers for HBR and HBR2 bandwidth, and that any certified standard DisplayPort cable—including those certified under DisplayPort 1.1—would be able to handle the 21.6 Gbit/s bandwidth of HBR2 that was introduced with the DisplayPort 1.2 standard. While all DisplayPort 2.1 cables can support UHBR 10 transmission mode, there’s no guarantee they’ll be able to support faster data transfers, so confirm which version of the cable you’re buying before doing so.

This process determines the maximum possible speed of the connection.
