About this deal

Make your own ironing water, although you do this at your own risk. For this you’ll need a clean spray bottle, some vodka, distilled water and some essential oils. See our in-depth guide on how to create your own ironing water. If you want to freshen up your laundry, it is much better to use a separate spray bottle on the item and then iron it. What Does the Calc-Clean Function Do? The Laundress’ Ironing Water comes in a 500 ml bottle, is one of the most expensive ironing waters around, and leaves your ironing pile smelling fresh and feeling soft. Ironing water can be added to a lot of irons. However, it is not suitable for most steam generator irons. Nonetheless, you should always read your user handbook to make sure that this type of water won’t cause severe damage to your machine.

Hard water contains lots of mineral deposits and, in turn, these can cause limescale to build up in the iron. If this limescale isn’t cleaned out regularly it can hinder how the iron functions. In some cases, ironing water can have a higher boiling point than regular water, so it heats up too much in the iron, and this can damage the machine or prevent it from functioning effectively.

🍪 Privacy & Transparency

There are some ironing water manufacturers that claim their product can prevent or at least, cut down any chances of static buildup. This is not intended to be a full statement of your rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Full details of your rights are available from your Local Authority’s Trading Standards Office. How To Return A Product Sadly, ironing water isn’t a kind of magic water, it’s usually just a liquid that’s made up from perfumes and three compounds: benzisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone and laurylamine dipropylenediamine. Finally, while the iron is switched off you can add a measure of ironing water into the water tank (see label for exact measurement). Beauty Advent calendars are significantly pricier than chocolate ones, but they've become increasingly popular in the last few years as a way of bagging beauty products at a fraction of the normal cost. They often sell out early, but can also be heavily discounted later if they don't, so here's a round-up of some of the best I’ve seen.

You do not need to use ironing water at all and there are certain iron manufacturers that state it should not be used in their irons. Alternatives include; If you have a water softener in your house then you should not use this water alone - although limescale is reduced, other materials are added which could eventually clog your iron and cause spitting and brown stains. In addition to this, a lot of people just use normal tap water in their irons and their irons work just fine. If your iron is getting a little clogged up with limescale and you’ve noticed that your laundry isn’t smelling quite as fresh as you’d like, perhaps it’s time you added some ironing water to your iron. Please note that during particularly busy periods, it may take a little longer to receive your delivery and our carrier may attempt to deliver to you on a Saturday.

Good to know

To create steam in your iron there’s a heating element that heats the water and turns it into vapour. If there’s a buildup of limescale on that element it takes more energy to heat the water to the same degree. Most of the tap water in the UK and even a lot of the bottled water that can be bought from supermarkets contains minerals like magnesium and calcium. These minerals are safe to drink but can build up in any appliance that heats water. Mineral build up in irons can damage components which will eventually lead to the breakdown of the iron. The best irons and steam generator irons for hard water areas are those which have a full anti-calc or calc-clean system. This product by Comfort is also claimed to prevent limescale from building up and has a pleasant scent as well as making it easier to remove creases and wrinkles. Are There Any Alternatives To Ironing Water? These minerals are perfectly safe to drink but they can cause havoc to anything that heats up tap water. If you want to see just what happens when hard water is heated up, have a look inside your kettle.

Sainsbury’s Fresh Cotton leaves clothes with an extra fresh sort of smell that permeates throughout the home. It also comes in one-litre bottle and is good at preventing limescale from forming in an iron. To make your own ironing water you will need to mix 10 to 15 drops of your favourite essential oil with ¼ of a cup of vodka or witch hazel and leave to stand at room temperature for 24 hours. Then add 2 cups of distilled water to the mixture and pour into a spray bottle and swirl around to mix well. You can now use this to spray onto garments as you iron them.

The homemade ironing water can also be used as a fabric freshener. Although you do need to be careful as both the essential oil and the vodka are flammable. This means taking extra care to prevent spraying on or around any source of fire like candles etc. Using The Calc-Clean Function Not usually a problem in the UK unless you use water from a source other than your local water authority. However, some water sources can be contaminated or become contaminated. Once that water is turned into steam, you could potentially breathe in any harmful germs or bacteria lurking in that water.

If you're a regular Superdrug shopper, you can now earn more freebies and discounts under its Health & Beautycard loyalty scheme, as the retailer has launched new 'VIP Rewards' as part of it. Ironing water is a water based liquid that is completely free from minerals and germs & bacteria. Many ironing waters contain parabens and perfumes to give the water a pleasant smell. The only major issue with doing this is that you’ve got to be careful if you have hard water coming out of your taps. You add ironing water to the water reservoir on your steam iron and every time you use the steam button you get a perfumed steam which is designed to make your laundry smell good.

Sometimes the chemicals don’t break down as they should, and they wear the seals and other parts inside the iron down.
