Since the cutting height ranges from 25 mm to 80 mm, this lawnmower is unlikely to struggle with tall grass. I tried it on the highest setting (7) on shorter patches of grass, and setting 5 on taller areas. Both times, it cut at just the right height. With the Bosch AdvancedRotak 650 you get an integrated height adjustment feature that is so good and makes adjusting the height a breeze. The handle is located centrally and there is a perfectly placed button that is pressed to either raise or lower the mower. Again see my video above to see just how good this feature is. This should clearly show the benefits of the feature. If you have left your lawn to grow for a while, don’t rush in and cut it on a very low setting. Rather start on a higher setting and progressively cut it lower. This will avoid leaving an untidy patchy appearance or even scalping parts of your lawn.

Despite being a wider lawn mower, it is still easy to navigate around the lawn, although do give yourself more space when turning, as it’s quite a big lawn mower to begin with! This does benefit wide lawns though, as the blade mows through a lot of the lawn in a single pass. The only weak point I could indicate is the flip cover for the battery. It seems a little flimsy so don't be too rough with it.

All in all this Bosch AdvancedRotak 650 is a fantastic mower full of features that can be used to help make mowing your lawn that bit easier and enjoyable. As this lawnmower is very large, with a huge capacity grass collector and a wide cutting width, it would be best suited to either someone with a medium-to large lawn with no tight corners, someone with a lawn that’s heavily strewn with leaves or someone with reduced mobility who needs to make mowing less of a chore. Another feature Bosch products are well known for is a great safety record. Obviously, if not used correctly, any lawnmower can be dangerous but Bosch has done everything they can to make the AdvancedRotak 650 as safe as possible without reducing its effectiveness.

Which one is best for you depends on the size of your lawn, with the 650 designed for lawns up to 650 m² in size and the 750 is for lawns up to 750 m². The Bosch Advanced Rotak 650 has very few design flaws. The only exception for me is the mesh grass collector. Even though the lid is made of plastic, I find mesh material can easily split, especially when mowing damp grass. Plus, it’s hard to clean.

The grass box does come with a handy gauge indicating when the grass box is getting full, again a nice touch as not all mowers have this. A year ago we moved to a new house with a half acre field attached to it. This meant we either needed a ride on mower or a cordless mower of some sort. As time has gone by and we landscaped areas and fenced off others it became clear a battery mower would be the solution. The other great feature of this mower is the ProSilence that reduces the noise level of this motor by up to 75%. I was sceptical at first but was pleasantly surprised at the low noise level of what is a very powerful motor. Boasting a whopping 1700W electric motor, the AdvancedRotak 650 is one of the larger motors on the Rotak range, making it best suited for medium and large sized gardens.

The AdvancedRotak 650 has ergonomically design double handles that make pushing around the heavier unit a lot easier. They are shaped perfectly for your hands and feature soft grip padding so you don’t feel excessive vibrations, which is important considering how powerful the lawn mower is. Because everything only involves slight pushing and pulling rather than major screwing and lifting, the design seems well suited to anyone with reduced mobility or arthritis. Plus, it’s handy that the cutting height adjuster has an indicator that tells you what setting you’re moving it to. The new machine works as well as the old one and as I also have a Bosch strimmer and leaf blower which use the same batteries I can now do the whole of the garden in 1.5 batteries.
