Exercise can be a surprisingly efficient way of boosting energy levels, even when you're feeling tired, but research has found that sleep is key for recovery from both physical and psychological stress. In pregnancy, these muscles can become stretched and weak because of the continual weight that your bump is putting on them. As your baby grows bigger, the pressure increases, making it harder for them to do the job of preventing incontinence, treating prolapse and improving sex. Overall, a love story to India and its women, whether in India, Pakistan or Bradford, with some beautifully descriptive writing and an enjoyable plot, if rooted in man's inexplicable cruelty to women and Mother India. I must confess I chose to read Baby Does A Runner on the basis that it was written by Anita Rani and from the title I think I expected some light and fluffy read - and whilst there is both romance and humour this is a book that delves so much deeper as it explores some complex issues around family, race and identity. The city of Jaipur wanted to do something to attract people, and it was about building on the heritage there,” said Roy. JLF invites scores of authors to the popular tourist city every year.

It’s really important to get into the habit of doing your pelvic floor exercises, even if you eventually change your mind about this whole running lark. Instead of being written as a worthy, historical tome it is a genrle stroll through modern culture by a local Bradford lass about another Bradford lass. It explains worship and hospitality rituals incidentally so doesnt hinder the flow of the story. One in three women experience urinary leaks post baby, and running can exacerbate this. But it doesn’t need to become a fact of life. For most women, taking the time to build strength in their pelvic floor should result in regaining full control of their bladder. Childbirth compounds these problems and can do some real damage to the pelvic floor. Nearly a third of women develop some level of stress incontinence after giving birth. If you experience any of the following symptoms during your run or shortly after, you should visit your GP or a pelvic health physiotherapist to ask for advice. You may need to do some more strength work before returning to high-impact exercise.I went into this book expecting some frivolous fun, literary romcom as it were. And it does have fun bits, it does have romance and comedy. But it also delves into religion, culture, history, generational trauma, in an accessible and approachable manner. These were all handled with sensitivity and respect, and it’s clear that the author has a lot of love for India. Hens lay consistently for about four to five years before the quantity but not necessarily the quality of the eggs diminish. A while ago the author was the subject of an Who Do You Think You Are? episode. She too unravelled some of the unspoken history of Partition. It was a gruelling journey and she uses this so well to take Baby there and leave her to delve into her own past. Teamwork Arts first worked internationally in Singapore helping to engage with theatre groups and put on an annual festival there. I love this app. The main one is very manageable for beginners. I found it really good because I wanted to go out the next time to find out what happened next.”

I loved Baby as a character because we share the same characteristics. Baby is funny, smart, fierce, knows her own mind and says it as it is. She knows what she wants and will fight against the norm and push the boundaries set by society. She’s trying to forge her own path in life and be her own person. She is not averse to marriage; she’s just not found the right person yet. Any person that reads this book will be able to relate to Baby in one way or another and if you’re of Indian heritage you’ll see a lot of yourself in baby. I loved Baby’s relationship with her Dadima because it reminded me a lot of my relationship with my Ajima (maternal grandmother). By week six you could up the pace of your walking and see how it feels. You could also try cycling – if you’re not sore, some gentle strength training, swimming or spinning. Start with walking or a short, gentle jog and work your way up from there, Couch to 5k is a good place to start Rather than ask her mum and dadima about the letters, Baby decides to go on a voyage of discovery to India, to visit her parents' homeland and see what she can uncover.

If you’re struggling to get to sleep, take care to avoid screens before sleeping, invest in a good maternity pillow, and avoid alcohol or caffeine. Even though it may feel counter-intuitive, prioritising sleep will help you return to running more effectively in the long run. And then of course, underlying all of these feelings about race, racism, acceptance, and belonging, is the huge and at times overwhelming grief she carries within her, caused by the death of her father whom she loved dearly. One of the main themes of the book is that the current state of gender relations has been determined by men for their own benefit and that science – in which Saini specialised later in her career after graduating with an engineering degree from Oxford University – has been far from neutral. Despite their mutual antipathy, when he hears that Baby intends to travel to Amritsar alone, Sid offers to accompany her. As an avid historian, Sid is fascinated by the letters which were written in the mid-1940s, the time of Partition and can't wait to show(off) Baby the real India as well as his own knowledge of India throwing off British rule. As Baby learns more about the history of India, and the horror of Partition in 1947, she feels as though a previously stunted part of her has been given room to grow.

Once Baby decides to go to India it continues to explain what she sees, tastes and experiences. How she finds Sid attractive (don't we all!) Whilst on her quest to unearth history. Liz Ellyard (Senior Category Manager for Running Footwear at New Balance) says, “After birth stability from your footwear is key. With increased levels of the Relaxin hormone still in your body and your core and pelvic floor muscles still recovering you’re more prone to injury, so it’s really important that your shoes give you sufficient support. Emma says, “Ideally we should start exercising our pelvic floor from puberty and continue throughout adulthood- like any other muscle in our body it needs a daily workout. After having a baby these exercises from the Pelvic Obstetric and Gynecologic Physiotherapy association can get the ball rolling.” What happens to your pelvic floor during pregnancy and birth? Every woman’s body responds differently to pregnancy and childbirth and heals at a different pace. When it comes to postnatal exercise, the best thing you can do is take it slow and listen to your body.

3. Core is key

I knew next to nothing of the Indian Partition before I started reading, and what I read here piqued my interest enough to motivate me to do additional research myself. I can’t say that of many other books in this genre!
