I don’t usually like it when a new author is dubbed as “the new….” as surely any writer wants to be successful in their own right. Anna and Laura were both interesting and loveable characters. I was filled with sadness as I read about the relationships they both had to endure with a self absorbed and apathetic man. 'They’re on a break,’ she said and refused to divulge the reason. ‘But he does exist.’ Another Life was the debut novel by Jodie Chapman, published in 2021. It was featured as a new release on series 2 of BBC’s Between the Covers.

Jodie Chapman does a brilliant job of describing what happens when life gets in the way of love. A really special book -- Sara Cox This isn’t your typical love story. It is gut wrenching, sad, painful and honest. However, in my opinion this is the truest depiction of love there is. I really enjoyed Another Life. It’s a great general fiction novel and the character development, plot and relationships kept me captivated from start to finish.

Ultimately, it's a story of two characters from very different worlds, stumbling through life and its challenges. They're always on the cusp of a relationship, but repeatedly pushed apart because of their choices, beliefs and obstacles. But there's always something. I was looking forward to reading this, but it wasn't what I was expecting. It is a bittersweet read. There are captivating, intricate characters who feel totally real... but it is also full of grief and longing and heart-wrenching mistakes. It is beautifully written with lots of poignant lines that make you pause and think. However I feel guilty recommending this kind of book because it's not a happy, light-hearted read. It is raw, gritty and real. It's like a grey, rainy day, but when you're safe indoors. Ricostruirsi non è facile: ci vogliono anni, ci vogliono decenni. Anna’s story highlighted that a person isn’t just one thing and people can’t be defined by their religion or relationship.
