The A30 Pro has a wide dynamic range ensuring it has an edge when playing classical recordings with gentler passages that offer a sense of control and crescendos that rush in with an air of confidence. With power on the A30 Pro listed as 6W into 16Ω and 840mW into 300Ω, it can easily power most of my full-sized headphones, including the Audio Technica ADX5000, Hifiman Ananda, and the Audeze LCD-X. However, what’s different about the chassis of the A30 Pro is that it has exhaust vents on the sides, and on top. Despite it being a chip-based headphone amp, it still heats up quite a bit due to the 10 op-amps inside the chassis, so the holes are there to ensure it can properly dissipate heat when necessary. The beauty of the Topping A90 headphone amplifier sound signature is that there is no sound signature. Other amplifiers have qualities that could either be described as warm, sterile, sharp, or tube-like. What you get here is what you put in basically. After using it for a long period of time, due to the oxidation of the magnet connector, the earbuds might not be charged or even turned on.

At the other end of the spectrum, the A30 Pro also manages to control sensitive IEMs such as the FiiO FH3, or the Mangird MT4, without issues such as channel imbalance. At low gain, both IEMs play nicely at around noon, which is the ideal spot for most analog volume potentiometers. Topping D30 Pro It’s an OLED panel with the same ‘Vivid’ and standard color modes as the Note 10, excellent contrast and good top brightness. However, a resolution of 1080 x 2400 rather than 1440p means you can see ever-so-slight OLED fizz if you go looking for it. Anyone who spends more than two minutes complaining about this is wasting their time, though. Why are the earbuds still won’t be charged or disconnected from the phone after I put them in the case and close the lid? The Topping is not just a headphone amplifier but it can also act as a preamplifier. It takes any compatible input and through the use of the volume control plus the front panel input selector plays the preamplifier part very well. This enables the user to just leave the unit on all the time. One note which needs to be mentioned and should always be of concern leaving electronics on all the time is the operating temperature but this unit rarely gets warm to the touch so it would be safe to do so with this model in my opinion. Also because of the dynamic range, the A30 Pro creates a good sense of layering within the soundstage. However, the furthest element still has a sense of being a bit too close.
