About this deal

I especially love the scene where Freya speaks to Viola about how she feels about her dreams and the honest communication between them both was just so refreshing to see. Although they don’t always see eye to eye they respect each other as individuals and that is captured perfectly through that passage. While she was delighted for her sister, and happy to share in all of the wedding preparations, Lou knew that she wanted something rather different. Because her great love was the written word; she was an avid reader and she had begun to write a novel of her own. One thing I expected, I also got and loved: beautifully descriptive writing. That is one thing I adore in books and I guess it's one of those things a historical book needs in my opinion? La trama es sencilla, pero se disfruta si lo que buscas es pasar un buen rato acompañado de una historia sencilla y tierna, ya que la protagonista, Lou, te despierta todo el tiempo ese sentimiento de ternura.

I can't not say this. As soon as I hear historical fiction, I think "boring stuff from years and years ago with stuffy characters and.. too much historical facts mentioned". I can't help it! School gave me this aversion when it comes to history and it has obviously sneaked into my reading preferences as well. Another stunning read from Laura Wood - her writing never ceases to blow me away, beautiful, captivating and honest. This book talks about mental health, diversity in theatre, race representation in theatre and dreams/goals.

Success!

Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments He disfrutado mucho con el ambiente de los años 20, una época que personalmente adoro, con las fiestas y detalles que hacía que disfrutaras mucho. LW: It is really good, so she’s brilliant. I love Eva Ibbotson’s romances. Generally things that have got a bit of romance in like they can have lots of other stuff going on but I like things that have got a bit of romance in. Her story is very well told, by her in the first person. Her voice was lovely, the story flowed beautifully. It was simple, but it was profound, and the things that it had to say felt utterly right. The post-war generation is caught perfectly, the period detail was pitch perfect, and that made it so easy to be drawn onto Lou’s life. I can't talk about too much more without heading into spoiler territory, but it's a journey that seems perfectly right for Freya and who she is. While rather different from Lou's journey, it felt right for who they both are as people.

Also there is a conversation between Lou and Freya that I may have teared up at because it slightly hit close to home with figuring out some things about my own future- but in a good way. j’ai eu plus de mal avec Viola et Russ, que j’ai souvent eu envie de secouer comme des cocotiers. même si certains comportants de Viola peuvent être expliqués, ce n’est pas une raison pour être aussi nombriliste et blessante 😒 Lou’s coming of age is beautifully drawn. Her relationship with her sister, who wants nothing more that to live happily with her husband in her new home, is unsettled. Her parents have the wisdom to understand that each of their children will grow to have different lives, and to give them the freedom to find their own paths. Lou loves seeing a new places and meeting new people, but she comes to understand that she must tread warily and consider carefully what is right and what is wrong.

I found it was so easy to identify with her, I loved seeing that story though her eyes, and everything that she felt, everything that she said, everything that she did rang true. Plans are rarely made, but whims are often followed. We burn the candle at both ends, and even at our more languorous and lazy — even when it seems we are doing little more than lolling about — I feel an electric pulse running through us all.”

Book Review and Interview | A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood Book Review and Interview | A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood

I really liked the theme following the artists in and out of Bea's Uncle's house. It added another layer to the story and also helped to contribute to Bea's passions being truly unearthed. This book is very much about finding yourself, having a fleeting adventure and learning a new approach to life. I want to give this book 3.5 stars with the sidenote that it was fine and lovely for a 12-15 year old audience but a little immature for readers that are on the more adult side of YAInspired by Much Ado About Nothing, with a heroine reminiscent of Sybil from Downton Abbey and a lazy Italian summer setting evoking other works such as Call Me By Your Name, UNDER A DANCING STAR is a beautiful novel about a girl finding her place in the world and deciding to take control of her life and who she wants to be. (She also falls in love with a very handsome artist along the way.)

A SKY PAINTED GOLD | Kirkus Reviews

Luchia Houghton: For those who haven’t yet read A Sky Painted Gold, first of all how would you explain it in your own words? I love Laura Wood and I love the Cinderella story, so I was incredibly excited for this! I got it for Christmas and enjoyed whizzing through it in those strange hazy days between Christmas and New Year. However, although it was fun enough, I did’t find it nearly as good as Wood’s other YA novels. It was a bit OTT with sensationalism, and neither plot nor, sadly, characters felt very believable or relatable (I know a Cinderella story isn’t striving to be believable, but I struggled to suspend my disbelief). I normally love Wood’s ability to capture coming of age in deftly drawn strokes, and I feel like this story got too wrapped up in trying to be dramatic and thus missed out on the emotional and perceptive depths which usually so elevate Wood’s writing. Also, given how plot-focused this book was, I found the ending rather rushed and not entirely satisfactory. This is it. This is them before Much Ado About Nothing. This is their perfect and wonderful summertime romance experience.Este es uno de esos libros que empiezas y terminas con una pequeña sonrisa en los labios. Porque lo que lees es tierno, divertido, romántico y está envuelto en una atmósfera que lo hace mágico. As for Caitlin and Robert? Definitely was intrigued right from the bat. She obviously struggles with past events and he had this mysterious air throughout the entire book. Loved it! I thought it was going to be impossible to beat A Sky Painted Gold, but Laura Wood has achieved the almost impossible: a perfect second novel that compliments the first in total harmony, whilst having a style and charm that is completely its own.
