If you have young children or are after a quiet relaxing day at the beach then Laganas is possibly not the best option. Zakynthos Greece is also known as “Zante” and “the Flower of the Levant”. Located in the Ionian sea about 250 kilometres west of the capital of Athens, it is perhaps most famous for Navagio Beach, a breathtaking cove surrounded by dramatic 200-meter high cliffs. Nestled in the enchanting Ionian Sea, the captivating island of Zante, also known as Zakynthos, is a holiday haven for beach lovers and party enthusiasts seeking the perfect escape. Eating with the sound of the Ionian Sea lapping up on the sand just meters from your table is what makes this spot so amazing. If you’re planning to visit other parts of Greece, don’t miss our epic travel guide. The town of Zakynthos (Zante Town) is a walkable place with a pedestrian street, squares and many quiet streets. However, if you want to explore further (and you should!), it’s not walkable and you’ll need to take transportation. Renting a car is the best option. Now You Know What To Do in Zakynthos The West: Empty and mountainous, most people only come to the west on a trip around the island with a stop at the famous sunset spot of the Cliffs of Keri.The reefs around Zakynthos are healthy and are home to the peculiar loggerhead sea turtle. These beautiful sea creatures can be found in the Zakynthos Marine Park where they often come ashore to lay their eggs in the evenings. There is a Keri Village on the west of the island and Keri Beach town on the southeast, which are about a 10-minute drive apart and both offer great accommodation options. Keri beach has a few nice resorts and hotels near the sand, while Keri Village has dramatic views over the cliffs out towards the Ionian Sea as well as the picturesque lighthouse. St. Dionysios is the patron saint of Zakynthos. Zakynthians honor his memory twice a year, with processions taking place on the 17th of December, the day of the Assumption, and on the 24th of August, as a commemoration his holy relics being returned from the Strofadia Islands to Zakynthos. San Dionysios Church is actually one of three buildings, the other two being an elementary school and the National Bank, that are still standing in the town of Zakynthos following the 1953 earthquake. The remains of St. Dionysios are kept in a silver casket inside the church.

Hidden gems of Zante
Hi! I am SJ & this is my family. We live in Croatia, & travel the Balkans. We publish detailed travel guides written by locals. It’s a good idea to visit Anafonitria on the same day you explore Navagio Beach since they’re very close to each other. Alternatively, board a cruise from Porto Vromi or Zakynthos Town and experience a half-day at this beach. It’s a good idea to book an excursion from Porto Vromi if you want to save some money. You’ll have to pay for sunbeds (€5 / day) even if you choose to eat at the bar. Bring a towel and lay it in the sand for free and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.
