As a first, affordable introduction to the many and various charms of music streaming, the WiiM Pro Plus is hard to lay a glove on at the price. It sounds poised and accomplished, it has a surprisingly well-executed control app, and it’s ready to form the basis of a multi-room system too. If you want to do better than this, it’s going to cost you quite a lot more money. The only improvement over the standard Wiim mini from my needs / POV is John’s comment about the Pro being bit-perfect. Nice to know the DAC isn’t messing about by randomly upsampling / down sampling your source material.

Use your Spotify or TIDAL app as your remote control for WiiM Pro Plus and stream directly from these services. WiiM Pro provides higher audio quality and longer operational work range longer than traditional Bluetooth or AirPlay 2 receivers and frees your mobile device for other tasks. Spotify works for both Spotify Free and Premium users. TIDAL works for both HiFi and Master Quality. If you think it's too expensive the wiim mini is still available and I suspect you will see a few start to appear on the 2nd hand market. The Nodes do now look very expensive next to either of the Wiim's, I mean I really like mine and BluOS has been fantastically stable, but I'm not sure I'd be defaulting to it now in 2022 if I needed a streamer. In the vast majority of cases we will not be able to install the cabinet doors to built-in laundry products as the fittings very rarely match up. We will try our best however if we are unable to do this we will still install connect to plumbing and put the appliance in situ. If so, and if it’s the DAC rather than the streaming element that defines the sound quality, doesn’t it make the expensive streamer and expensive streamer/DAC combos look redundant? This, into a DAC of your choice will be a cheaper way of doing it. Especially as it has all the formats most people will actually use, has easy to use software, can be used for multi-room and, according to the specs listed by a retailer, its also Roon compatible. What can a high end streamer add that’s worth paying for?Yes, mine is connected (via coax) to a Chord 2Qute and it sounds amazing!

With a nice chunky file of Brian Eno's Burning Airlines Give You So Much More streaming via TIDAL Connect, the Pro Plus sets up a spacious, well-defined soundstage with more than enough elbow-room available to each individual strand of the recording. Detail levels are high across the board, and this is especially apparent in the midrange, where Eno's committed but rather approximate singing is delivered with all of its character intact. The generous dimensions of the recorded acoustic mean that he has plenty of room in which to operate, but this is not at the expense of integration.
