About this deal

Ten dice is a good start, but as your armies grow, so will your need to collect more of the six-sided destiny cubes. Included Models Zatu has an excellent range of games and for most of them the best prices too. Delivery is always fast and I have never received a game in bad condition. 10/10 would recommend. The other issue with the Recruit Edition guidebook is that, at times, it’s not very well-written, nor very well-formatted.

The two teams available in this set – the Veteran Guardsmen and the Ork Kommandos – are some seriously sweet little models. Don’t get me wrong – the Necrons are beautiful models and they go together very well. They, too, have very minimal mould line cleanup and a very beginner-friendly range as far as painting goes. Thirdly, each increment has arrows on its edge indicating exactly where your model stops depending on how far it can move and is designed to be lain in front of the model to illustrate exactly how movement functions in Warhammer 40,000. No, we weren’t teasing you – by popular request, the Death Korps of Krieg and Ork miniatures from Kill Team will indeed soon be available separately (around the same time that the Starter Set hits the shelves). The Recruit set has a starting set of two armies; Space Marines, and Necrons. The Space Marines are humanity’s last bastion against everything….not….human. In the 41 st millennium, there are quite a few enemies that fall into that category.

GameCentral offers some advice on how to get into the Warhammer tabletop games, including painting your first figures and cheap starter sets. Whilst it’s occasionally let down by a clunky beginner’s guide, there’s a lot to like in the new Kill Team Starter Set box. Awesome miniatures and some excellent savings make it easier than ever to get into the latest edition of Games Workshops fast-paced tabletop skirmish wargame. Sitting down and trying to riddle out how to actually play an entire game of Kill Team from the Core Rules isn’t an easy thing to do, as the rules aren’t necessarily written or formatted in such away that one might come across them whilst actually playing Kill Team. The Kill Team rules book, much like its cousins in Age of Sigmar or proper Warhammer 40,000, are meant to be used as indices of reference to which one can refer at various points through set-up and play. They aren’t designed to be a cover-to-cover read (though don’t let that stop you if you feel so inclined). It looks awful and takes up a huge amount of space on the mat. A couple of the Missions actually have you set the table up like this. Finally “ Command Edition” is the new flagship of the range. Which makes me wonder why Elite Edition has that name. I thought the definition of Elite was something “that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society”. But now there is a version which is more superior than Elite…

More experienced modellers and painters will also be pleased to know that the Space Marines can be easily converted and work very well with the various chapter-specific Primaris conversion kits available. Hammer time. I just wanted this lad to look fancy – this isn’t a loadout that occurs in the guide. I decided to assemble mine as five Warriors with Gauss Flayers, (long range, less power) and the other five wielding Gauss Reapers (shorter range, more powerful).

As I said above, there are plenty of build options across the set, too, so you don’t have to build the miniatures that you see here. Those miniatures that you don’t build will leave all their extra parts behind, so you’ve got plenty of bits left over to use in conversions or kitbashing, should such things take your fancy.

Once you learn the basics, don’t be afraid to personalise your army. As you get more confidant you can experiment with your builds and use conversions to make gluing and painting less of a chore. Painting can be stressful and competitive but there’s nothing like a Lego head on a Space Marine if you want to take a shortcut and have a unique model of your own. This is the basic kit for anyone who wants just a taste of playing Warhammer 40,000, 2 Small Squads and a leader for each factionThere’s plenty of Warhammer enthusiasts, like Henry Cavill, who enjoy the painting aspect of the hobby more than the competitive play. Some even make a career out if it, such as Angel Giraldez, who is renowned as one of the best painters in the fandom.
