About this deal

When you consider the primary focus of this set is to get curious people in the door, at a more-than-reasonable price point, it honestly cannot be beat.

Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition Indomitus Starter Sets Compared Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition Indomitus Starter Sets Compared

The Recruit Book is one of those resources that’s completely unique to the box it comes in, so it’s almost impossible to gauge the value of as there is no other standalone product like it within GW’s range. It seems relatively fair to include the Recruit Book in the value ascribed to the mini Core Rules book.

Setting the Scene

The Command Edition box is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a 'classic' Warhammer experience. The kit gives you all the tools you need to have the infamous Primaris Space Marines face off against the gruesome Necron Warriors, a battle that has been raging for a long, long time. Personally, as I have the paints, I’ll skip these as I expect those models to be released as separate “easy to build” kits of just the 3 models in each. Just like we had with 8th Edition. Warhammer 40,000 Starter Sets Recruit Vs Elite Vs Command. Two small armies of miniatures for playing the missions in the game: The Space Marines, (the Stormcast Eternals of the Warhammer 40,000 universe), are represented by a unit of 5 Primaris Assault Intercessors and a Primaris Lieutenant, which is a lot like a Hero in AOS. The Warhammer 40,000 Command, Elite and Recruit editions mean that there is a way to get started with 40K to suit your needs – whether you’re looking to dip a toe into the (Daemon-infested) waters or leap fearlessly into the fray. Here’s the lowdown. Recruit Edition Finally “ Command Edition” is the new flagship of the range. Which makes me wonder why Elite Edition has that name. I thought the definition of Elite was something “that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society”. But now there is a version which is more superior than Elite…

Wayland Games

So this set is literally the same models as the Elite Edition, but includes Terrain. So you can just use the points above. The Necron Set also features 3 models and 6 paints. including a couple of the new paints released specifically for this edition Warhammer 40,000 Necron Warriors Paint Set We previously had a similar breakdown of versions with Dark Imperium (8th Edition) in the form of 3 named boxes; First Strike (is succeded by Recruit Edition), Know No Fear (succeded by Elite Edition) and Warhammer 40,000 Dark Imperium (Now Command Edition). It’s similar with Soul Wars too. If Strength is higher than Toughness, you wound on a 3+. If Strength is twice as high or higher than Toughness, it’s a 2+. If Strength is lower than Toughness, it’s a 5+. If Strength is half or less than Toughness, you wound on a 6+.This number of miniatures you build can be increased from 10 to 11 if you decide to build one particular variant of the medic, whose satchel occupies its own base. Whilst we’re on variant builds, most of the guardsmen have two if not three different variations they can be built in, so make sure you take your time selecting the variant you want. I enjoy the wealth of options the come with, I find them easier to break into sub-assemblies for painting and I like that I can customise and project a bit of personality on to them. I’ve been playing tabletop games on and off for about 8 years now. I’ve played a lot of Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Age of Sigmar. I’ve dabbled in Warcry and Kill Team but have never played Warhammer 40,000. With all these awesome ways to get started with Warhammer 40,000 – the Dark Millennium has never looked more inviting. So, make your choice, sound the warhorns and jump right in. Your new hobby awaits!

Warhammer 40,000 Elite Edition Starter Set Review Warhammer 40,000 Elite Edition Starter Set Review

I was able to repair it easily enough but it did make me question whether these are the best models for a beginner to be having a go at. Certainly, the Elite Manual advises building the Intercessors first so there is that. As I said above, there are plenty of build options across the set, too, so you don’t have to build the miniatures that you see here. Those miniatures that you don’t build will leave all their extra parts behind, so you’ve got plenty of bits left over to use in conversions or kitbashing, should such things take your fancy. If you’re an absolute Warhammer novice, the Recruit Edition is a great option. It contains two starting armies – a Space Marines Lieutenant and a squad of Assault Intercessors to pit against a Royal Warden, Warriors, and Scarabs for the Necrons. Once you’ve mastered the basic rules and got the hang of your Space Marines and Necrons, you can expand your forces and play larger games with the Elite Edition. The Elite Manual gives you a wider overview of the game and lore, along with expanded rules for you to use with your new models.

Recruit Edition

A few factions have Combat Patrol boxes instead – these are a literal army in a box, designed to fit perfectly into Combat Patrol games of around 500 points or a power level of 25. Each includes an HQ choice, a Troops choice and some specialist units that showcase how the army fights, giving you not only the perfect way to play small games, but a great foundation on which to build your galaxy-conquering force. Figuring out what to roll to wound the target, however, is correspondingly complex: You either use the model’s Strength characteristic or the weapon’s Strength characteristic (the weapon stats specific which one to use), and measure it against the Toughness characteristic of the target. You may know this sort of system from Warcry, but if you don’t, it goes like this: if Strength and Toughness are the same, you wound on a 4+. The Command Edition makes expanding your Warhammer 40,000 experience as easy as possible – not just by including the full rules, but the modular nature of the gaming board itself is the perfect start to a larger battlefield. For example, the addition of the Battlefield Expansion Set will double the size of your gaming area and terrain collection (perfect for Incursion-scale games*) in one fell swoop! The Kill Team Starter Set tokens come on a perforated board that you’ll need to push them out of, just like the one below. The mat is couple sided to allow for a bit more variance in games which is a nice touch, and one side actually has marked deployment positions that are utilised in a lot of the missions in the Elite Manual. This speeds up things massively in games.
