About this deal

I bonded with Hannah right away, she seems like such an easy going type of person and someone that it would be easy to chat to and get along with and so I was invested in her right from the start. She has had a tough start in life and her secret heartbreak is always there with her affecting her everyday thoughts and actions. Sonny also wears his heartbreak right out there. He is a complex fellow and I have to admit I was somewhat wary of him to begin with but he is a total cinnamon roll of a man, he has a bit of a tough exterior but is soft and lovely in the muddle. He has a whole host of skeletons in his closet and all of those contribute to his complex past and his own secret heartbreak. THIS.BOOK.WAS.AMAZING!!! It has been a while since I read a romance book that I felt was impossible to put down and totally transport me, but The Minute I Saw You was everything I look for in a five star read! The Minute I Saw You is a very poignant love story. It was funny, romantic, frustrating but essentially very moving. Every aspect is written sensitively and ensured I loved both Hannah and Sonny equally. Family secrets, new horizons and a gorgeous continent-crossing romance . . . prepare to be swept away!' Sonny is a photographer and is at home with his parents in Cambridge at the moment and he is very drawn to the woman who starts his eye test but a couple of weeks later his world has fallen apart and getting close to someone is not in his plans at all, he is making big changes in his life and wooing woman and romance is not at all part of his plan, but Hannah weaves her way into his life and they are fast becoming true friends but he suspects like him she is keeping part of herself hidden and as the summer moves on they are feeling the heat between them. Some people believe that it’s possible to fall in love simply by gazing into another person’s eyes . . . I enjoyed the bubbling chemistry between Hannah and Sonny, from the moment they met it was clear there was something special between them and that made their second meeting all the more surprising as something had fundamentally changed. I always know I can trust a book by Paige Toon to give me some escapism!…Hannah and Sonny’s relationship is gorgeously flirty and the whole book is uplifting, touching and romantic while hitting some pretty big topics….A pure delight to read.”—Giovanna Fletcher, author of Eve of ManThis story is beautiful in so many ways, it’s a heartfelt romance with lots of sweet compelling moments which really tugged upon my heartstrings. It also is about two people struggling to come to terms with very significant moments in their lives, one loss and another overcoming from abuse. It made for a very powerful read, and I loved Sonny and Hannah together. To me two broken halves definitely healed each other to make them whole again. Are they both too broken to find love? And if they tear down the walls between them, will they still like what's on the other side? An interesting recurring motif which ran the length of the novel was eyes and the idea of looking at someone. As a recurring visual element, it reinforces one of the novel’s key ideas about seeing someone else for who they really are and being seen down to your very core. It’s also clever of Toon to have done this, because at the core of a lot of romance storylines is the ‘wall’ between the characters – something that prevents them from getting together. A lot of the time it’s because one or both of the parties have skeletons in their closet that makes them afraid of intimacy; of being truly seen. It did a very good job of exploring this idea, and had a very nice tie-in to a subplot which looked how homeless people are often overlooked – not properly seen. It was a lovely, thought provoking touch that didn’t obnoxiously make its point, but gave the novel a certain weight that was enjoyable.

The Minute I Saw You Lyrics | Genius Lyrics John Parr – The Minute I Saw You Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

It’s full of emotions and that makes the book really intense in a good way. There are a lot of unexpected moments and ups and downs. We also delve into the area of mental health in this novel, something which thankfully is becoming less and less taboo. Reading about it in this matter of fact way is definitely something that contributes to breaking those barriers and I love the way it is explored and written about in the context of Hannah and Sonny's stories. Of course we have some wonderful settings because it wouldn't be a Paige Toon novel without some wonderful travel adventures whether that's a trip in a canoe along the cam or flying further afield to friends and family in exotic locations. I was there alongside these characters; travelling vicariously through them and having the odd glass of prosecco with them as I did.Hannah has her own reasons for wanting to keep their budding friendship platonic. Plus, she’s only in town temporarily, housesitting for her uncle. But as the summer hots up and the chemistry between them intensifies, Hannah and Sonny discover that there’s more to each other than meets the eye... It soon transpires that Sonny is at a crossroads. He’s committed to making serious life changes, but thesechanges can’t and won’t include romance.

Hannah and Sonny both don’t do relationships, they prefer no strings attached, as gifting people more than a night forces them to be vulnerI really liked Hannah and endeared to her immediately. Sonny not as much but as a rare reader of romance, even I have to say the chemistry between them was electrifying and very sensuous and flirtatious to read.

Book Review: The Minute I Saw You by Paige Toon - Culturefly

Two things that made this book perfect were the pacing and chemistry. I do not want to spoil the plot, but Hannah and Sonny both had past traumas that they were dealing with, and the way the two slowly opened up to each other felt realistic and raw. Also, as a reader, we really got to know each of the characters in the present before Toon opened up to us about their pasts. Of course, there were glimpses into their histories that built suspense, which only ended up increasing my connection to these characters. In terms of the romance, Hannah and Sonny's chemistry, support for each other and progression of their relationship was a joy to read. I loved how close they were despite having zero physical intimacy and the idea that they were dating long before they were dating.Gave me that gorgeous glowing happy feeling you get at the end of a truly uplifting read.”—Beth O’Leary, author of The Road Trip Paige Toon’s voice is electric, passionate and fresh. I was hooked immediately and really liked how the storyline developed. The book is also very sexy and exciting. I always know I can tryst a book by Paige Toon to give me some escapism!... Hannah and Sonny's relationship is gorgeously flirty and the whole book is uplifting, touching and romantic while hitting some pretty big topics. I'm sad it's over!... This was a pure delight to read.' GIOVANNA FLETCHER, Sunday Times bestselling author of Some Kind of Wonderful Chapter 3 If I thought I was going to be able to stop thinking about him, I was wrong. As April melded pleasantly into May, Sonny continued to be a distraction. And not a pleasant distraction, not in the way it was at first. That look in his eyes was so stark, so bleak. He seemed broken. I couldn’t forget it. I confided in Umeko that he seemed upset when he came in to collect his glasses. She replied that she didn’t know his father well enough to call him about personal issues, but promised to ask after Sonny the next time she spoke to his dad about something accounts related. To my knowledge, that hasn’t yet happened. * One late afternoon in mid-May when I’m out at the front dead-heading the roses, I hear the side door to Evelyn’s clinic open. I can’t decipher specific words, but I can hear Evelyn’s serene, musical voice and the low, deep tone of a man’s reply. A minute later, this same man, I’m presuming, appears from the side of the building, wheeling his bicycle down the gravel driveway towards the road. I straighten up with a start. It’s Sonny. My sudden movement catches his eye and he glances my way, giving me a cursory nod. Then he does a double take, puzzlement creasing his brow. ‘Sonny,’ I say. ‘Oh, hi,’ he replies vacantly, coming to a slow stop. ‘Hannah. I work with Umeko,’ I remind him awkwardly as his gaze sweeps over my appearance. ‘I didn’t recognise you,’ he admits. It’s a fair comment. My casual clothes couldn’t be more different from the strait-laced uniform I’m required to wear for work.
