About this deal

A veeeeeeerrryyyyy good egg spends its time helping others and trying to be perfect. It carries out good deeds… whether this is helpful or even needed is another matter! In The Good Egg by Jory John, an egg suffering from a breakdown, takes some time out and realises it doesn’t have to be perfect. The book's themes include:

The Good Egg, The Food Group by Jory John - Booktopia The Good Egg, The Food Group by Jory John - Booktopia

I remember a few years ago a parent asked me for books for a 7 year old about being a perfectionist and anxiety about others being less than perfect. This would have been a great story for that kid! Egg is so sweet and well-meaning and drawn so adorably. Kids will love the hilarious antics of the bad eggs, while teachers, parents, and some children will likely recognize themselves in the good egg. Doesn’t worrying about others, trying to make everything perfect, and neglecting to look after yourself sound awfully familiar? I think every classroom needs this book. It touches on some important issues in a fun, lighthearted way. Dynamic duo Jory John and Pete Oswald hatch a funny and charming story that reminds us of the importance of balance, self-care, and accepting those we love (even if they are sometimes a bit rotten). You could also use The Good Egg to make a connection to tattling. Even though the Good Egg never tattle-tails, he IS overly concerned with everyone else’s behavior; just like the little kiddos who are always coming in after recess and lunch break with tattles about everyone and thing under the sun. This story is great for those students who tend to be the mother hens in your classroom. I feel like every school year, I have a student who falls into this category! The Good Egg encourages self-care and being able to try new things. One of my favorite things about this book is the illustrations. There are some really funny details in the pictures. And the author entertains you with fun egg puns. Good Egg Circle: Sit in a circle and pass around a plastic egg. When a child is holding the egg they can say, “I’m a good egg when ….” Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. I have created literacy graphic organizers for The Good Egg. You can find them at my Teachers Pay Teachers store. There are many activities for each literacy area to differentiate depending on your student’s ability/age. They include activities for: I loved the art. It was also a nice concept and the message is pretty good in itself that sometimes you just have to let go but the text and the execution wasn't that great. I loved the first book in the series but this doesn't compare for me.

The Good Egg – HarperCollins

This is one of those titles that makes me so happy to be a children's librarian. That there are such talented authors and illustrators in the world who dedicate their time to bringing joy to children and adults through such charming works is a blessing. From the bestselling creators of The Bad Seed , a timely story about not having to be Grade A perfect! Fox visit other first animals to ask their advice. They suggest activities that work for them, but they won`t necessarily work for Fox. Having read The Bad Seed last year, I was eager to give The Good Egg a try. I actually like this one a little more than its predecessor... mostly because I can really relate to the main character! While I thought the illustrations were cute, I wasn't completely sold on the story line (or the fact that the 'Good' Egg is any good at all).

Did we miss something on diversity?

From the bestselling creators of The Bad Seed, a timely story about not having to be Grade A perfect! Seriously disappointed in the message this book sends to young children - do a lot of superficial, selfish tasks, and you’ll feel better about everyone else’s bad behavior. The Good Egg is a positive role model for his willingness to help others, his attempt to remedy bad behavior of those around him, and mostly for his ability to step away from his comfort zone to prioritize his own well-being. He's courageous, determined to persevere on journey of self-discovery. He's also eager to forgive and learns to find positive in others and his situation.

The Good Egg Book Review | Common Sense Media

The message of putting yourself before others is not what I want to teach my kids. The extreme bad behavior of the other eggs is unrealistic, and the author has the Good Egg deal with that behavior by going on a solo journey of “self care,” including going to a spa and “breathing in and out.” That type of “self care” doesn’t work in real life, so why teach it to children, furthering the selfish “world-revolves-around-me” mentality of youth today. The Good Egg is a nicely illustrated book. I bought it from my son’s scholastic catalog without being able to read the inside, and I will be giving this book away.Jory John is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and two-time E.B. White Read-Aloud Honor recipient. My family reads all the Goodreads-award-nominated picture books every year. This is book #6 (of more than 20) of 2019, and we were all over the map on this one, from 1-4.5 stars. A sequel to The Bad Seed? Please reserve a table MON- FRI below.
