About this deal

Jason Watkins leads the cast as Ed Collier (Credit: Splashnews.com) Who is in the cast of The Catch on Channel 5?

Poppy Gilbert plays Ed’s daughter Abbie, she’s best known for starring in the BBC mini-series Chloe. You might also recognise her as Barbie from Stay Close.Throughout The Catch there was no point where I thought 'aha! I know what's going off here!' I couldn't fathom whether Ryan was a bad guy or whether Ed was losing the plot. I didn't know who, or even if there was a villain.

But when a rich, handsome younger man enters daughter, Abbie’s, life and threatens to take her away from him, Ed finds his life spiralling out of control. Another T.M. Logan addictive read, good plot, full of suspense and again I struggled to put it down. T.M. Logan always manages to come up with the basics of a realistic scenario, that then spins entirely out of control. The Catch is no different. A father who doesn’t approve of his daughter’s choice of partner isn’t that hard to imagine. In Ed’s case, it’s not just the close bond between Abbey and himself that is causing this overprotectiveness. There is more to it than that, but that’s something you’ll have to discover for yourself. I'll admit, I was slightly terrified that it wouldn't match up to my expectations. The Holiday was and still is my no*1 read from last year and didn't think anything could match up BUT Oh My Days this was incredible. Bestselling author TM Logan was a national newspaper journalist before turning to novel-writing full time. His thrillers have sold more than two million copies in the UK and are published in translation in 22 countries around the world including France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, South Korea, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Greece, Romania and the Netherlands.

I love Mr Logan's thrillers they never fail to entertain, the characters always highly engaging and always with clever underlying faultlines to mess with your perception of them Ed thinks his daughter's new boyfriend Ryan is a psychopath. He has no proof - just gut instinct and Ryan's chilling eyes. Speaking about the four-part thriller, the actor said: “I’ve always loved thrillers on screen and The Catch has all the ingredients to keep audiences hooked. Jason Watkins leads the cast as Ed Collier, the protective father determined to expose his daughter’s fiancé’s misgivings.

Not only did he not pay the private investigator; he also forwarded the report exposing him as a liar and criminal to his and Abbie's house. He had no financial issues. He could've settled the bill or bought a P.O. box. The characters had no personality. Ed's concern came across as overbearing and paranoid. There were hints that perhaps he had a shady side but that was never followed up on. Claire pooh-poohed everything he said while Abbie either gushed about Ryan or got upset with Ed. This had the same high intensity, and left me wanting to know what happens next and if anything I thought it was slightly better than The holiday The Catch is a hugely suspenseful story and the tension builds up slowly, as Ed travels down an increasingly darker path. How far will a father go? Throughout, the reader is left to wonder about Ryan. But also about Ed himself. It isn’t until the end, when the pieces of the puzzle start to come together, that you realise how cleverly T.M. Logan has plotted this story. Ryan was also behind a staged empty bottle of vodka, Google searches on the computer for the Peak District and blood found in Ed’s car to create a false impression of Ed’s mental state. But his love of keeping souvenirs of his crimes caught up with him and when Abbie found a Grand Canyon #1 Dad knife in his belongings that she’d bought Ed, she put two and two together.Well, I have been working my way through the Prime Ministers – I popped up in BBC1’s SAS: Rogue Heroes as Winston Churchill – so maybe I could do a few more of those and get to Liz Truss. That’d be interesting!" Interview: Aneurin Barnard on playing Ryan Wilson Seeing Ed's slow obsession really sets up the first half of the novel, his adamant that theres something not quite right with Ryan leads him into some awkward situations! The closer the wedding date, the harder it was to put this one down! Ed (the ultimate helicopter dad) was such an endearing character. His dark humor had me laughing out loud at his obsessive behavior (it is his daughter so it is understandable, he thinks the guy is evil). THE Catch is a a psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns that will keep viewers on the edge of the seats.
