About this deal

Okay, this headphones are not a legend for nothing, they deserve their most-buy reputation, this is serious cans with a serious sound, extremely neutral and detailed, light to wear and comfortable and I can really make great mix with them even if they cost third time less than my now gone Sony MDR-7609. HD681's, Great sound and seperation of high and low frequencies. Quite comfy for big earmuffs/caps and a nice long lead. The treble has been tamed (which is good) and it's a more dark sounding headphone, quite different tonality to the originals. SO today is time to make a little review of a not so well keeped secret chinese monitor headphone Gem.

It usually has to do with the tonal balance of a headphone. For example a headphone with higher energy in the upper midrange and treble will generally be colder sounding. In terms of insulation, neither the 681 nor the 668B insulate much. They do attenuate some of the ambient noise, but not nearly as good as a closed headphone. In my country the 681's alone cost between 7 to 12 euro more compared to thomann. The pads, somewhat the same. I've had 3 pairs of these headphones, which is a testament to how good these sound and how badly their cable is designed.

EVO pleather pads seem to be a bit different to the originals and coupled with the new design of the headphone, they seem to be slightly more comfortable. In the case of 668B, relative to the normal 681 it has to do mostly with the treble. The 668B has a bit less treble emphasis and more prominent lower midrange. The end result being a bit warmer and more balanced sound. After playing around with an EQ, I mostly adjusted the 5k and up, by simple lowering them more and more the higher up I advanced in frequencies. Now this may be placebo, but I felt the presentation and sonical experience turned muddy and veiled. So I tried a second alternative, add cotton pads (those round, white soft pads used for facial-cleansing and make-up removal). I simply added one pad inside each cup, fitted them right through the opening without needing to open the cups up, using my finger to slide the pad under the velour pad edges. To explain my initial reaction: it felt right. The sound was just the way I liked it, similiar sound profile that I was used to from my 595's. The sibilance was gone and I still found the headphones sounding enjoyable. Now, as I said, it may be placebo or it may not be, so it should be up to everyone to try an EQ or cotton pads. The bass is still quite the same. To be honest, I don't recall exactly how it sounded without the cotton installed, but hey, these cost 28?. Some sacrifice is inevitable.

Because I really dislike the one with the red rings I bought the one with silver rings, not realizing that it has a different sound. But it looked cooler, that's a lot to be said here... Overall these headphones are sooooo worth the money, the sound quality is superb, and listening to songs sounds great. If you were to use these for long periods of time they may become a bit uncomfortable for your ears, especially big ones, but I can't complain because of the budget-friendly price. Thanks, Superlux!

But some people find it more boring than 681. On fast paced, bass driven music, the 681 (non-B) does have an allure. The Superlux HD681 highs are superb bright and detailed, a “treble-head” dream come true… bringing some memories of in-ear headphones like the Senfer 4in1. Hats off for Superlux’s little monstrous creation. government and regulatory authorities and other similar organisations, as required or authorised by law or as required as part of the Services; and Very happy with these headphones,,..I just needed a cheap pair to sound good enuf until I got a better pair in a couple of weeks time..These did the job..For the price I don't think u could buy better headphones,,making me wonder how much better a more costly pair of Superlux will sound...I've got my good ones now and these 681,s are my spares that I use on my Amplugs..

This also provided with a carrying pouch to protect the headphone. Though i would say that the pouch is like a cloth bag for carrying wet clothes. Kinda sharp, but actually, not that much. maybe the 2nd badge did just a bit improve this. i eq this down, 2kHz@-2dB, 4kHz@-1dB, 8kHz@-2or3dB. after tuned, gives out some detail but also wash out some detail as well...

Like all consumer goods this isn't perfect. As you can imagine some corner had to be cut deep to get this price, and that corner was cut in build quality. Plastic is light and the earcups make a creaking sound when moved. Cheapest plastic for a headband and hard foam in the earpads. Despite being semi open the ears heat up after an hour or two and the pads are drenched in sweat after that. The wire doesn't isolate noise that well so when you tap it you'll hear it in the headphone. At least the whole thing is light as. Due to being a monitor it does not perform that well with dialogue, which definitely sounded better in my Sennheiser. Enough blabbering - these headphones are absolutely worth the price. The sound is pretty clear and the phones are comfortable to wear. They are a little bass heavy though so keep that in mind if you are considering between these and some other ones. But for my purpose, casual music listening while in work, they are just perfect. They are semi-open, but I'd be ready to call them open. It's good when someone tries to reach out from outside as they don't need to shout. On the other hand they are massive enough to be seen so other understand that they might need to raise voice — good perk compared to earphones. The Superlux HD681 semi-open headphones approach hi-fi quality with a very detailed sound, and have a very even bass response; also, they are well-constructed, comfortable, and insanely cheap. Hey, I just bought the HD681 B as a temporary replacement for my Grados and I would like some suggestions on some light EQ through Winamp (or some 3rd party EQ sofware if needed) as the sound is unbearable at higher frequencies. Another option would be the new 681 EVO, which come with 2 sets of pads, pleather and velour. In that sense they offer perhaps the best value of all Superluxes.
