About this deal

As with other models, Sivga opts for a build using wooden cups and (faux) leather covered headband and pads. The gloss finish on the wood earcups is excellent, the embroidered stitching on the protein leather headband looks elegant, while the metal linkages that secure the earcup and the headband emphasises the Robin’s natural, homespun feel. The Robin are a handsome pair of headphones. The ability to carry your favourite headphones around is priceless for those who value them. These headphones offer the ultimate portability experience without sacrificing sound quality. The SIVGA SV021has an impedance of 32 Ohms and sensitivity of about 105dB, which looks pretty efficient on paper. However, I suggest you to pair it with sources that do have better levels of amplification, such like portable or desktop amplifiers (xDuuo XA10, FiiO Q5s, PALAB M1-Mini) or powerful DAP’s (iBasso DX220 MAX, iBasso DX300) that do offer a much better synergy and overall sound performance. The positive effect of such sources was especially audible in the lower frequency register.

Metallica – fight fire with fire (01:11-01:52), bass is cleaner on the SV021 but the treble is very peaky. When I handed her the Orioles, I asked her what price range she thought they might belong to. Her guess was five times more than reality. That is high praise for Sivga’s construction.Mids: Hiroyuki Sawano – OldToday (01:25-01:52), instrument and vocal tonality and timbre are leagues ahead on the 1AM2.

Sivga Robin SV021 Headphone Review - Does it Sound Good? Sivga Robin SV021 Headphone Review - Does it Sound Good?

Hiroyuki Sawano – Scapegoat (00:57-01:17), Instrument and vocal tonality/timbre are leagues ahead of the SV021. SIVGA still stands for “Wood. Metal. Precision”. As you will find out the further you read into this review, I will often make comparisons between the SV004 and the Phoenix. Inside the box are the headphones, detachable cable, a 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter and a fabric carrying pouch. It would have been nice to see some kind of actual carrying case but the omission of one is how Sivga has kept the price of the headphones down. Design We’ve not reviewed any products from Sivga Audio before, so this Chinese brand is a relative unknown to us. In terms of build quality, the ATH-M50X are made of plastic and the ear cups are shallower. The modern and fashionable-looking Robin are definitely more eye-catching for consumers. The deeper ear cups and better cushioning on the headband are more comfortable as well. When I compared it to the Drop x Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee, another headphone I like at the SV021’s price point, the HD58X did better with Microdynamics, meaning you could actually hear "into" the music better, but I liked the Macrodynamics on the Sivga headphone a little more. Imaging within the width plane is pretty decent. I can easily pinpoint instruments from left to right.

UNBOXING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS:Upon opening the box, I am presented with a carrying pouch, a quarter-inch adapter, a dual-sided 2.5mm SE cable (1.5m long), and last but not least, the headphone itself. The Sivga Robin SV021 has a balanced sound signature i.e. one that doesn’t prioritize any specific frequency over the others. I’d say overall, it’s a fairly neutral and transparent headphone with a hint of added warmth for musicality. I also compared the Robin SV021 to my gaming headphone, the Corsair Virtuoso. Guess who sounded better? The Robin SV021 still sounded better overall. It has better detail retrieval, transparency, cleaner bass, and a wider soundstage. I think the SV021 is not only good for music listening but gaming and media consumption as well. This is my first encounter and experience with a headphone made by Sivga. And honestly, I am not disappointed. I almost turned this one down because of my initial feeling that it may not sound good and probably early reviewers were just hyping up this headphone. Speaking of the hype, well for me the hype may be real to a certain point. I listened to the Robin SV021 for a few minutes right out of the box. And I noticed that the treble was a bit sharp. It was generally okay to use and listen to out of the box, but I feel that breaking it in would help even things out and let the driver “stretch out” its diaphragm and move its coil more. Bassheads should likely pass on the Oriole, as the low-end isn’t tuned to brain-shaking levels. Instead, they exhibit a restrained demeanor, with a relatively flat mid-bass response. This tuning goes a long way in keeping the mid-range lean and controlled. Technicalities: Shiro Sagisu – Hundred years war (02:24-02:57), wider on the SV021 but a lot deeper and more holographic on the 1AM2. Macro detail is better on the SV021 (due to the massive treble peaks) but imaging, separation and timbre on the 1AM2 is outclassing the SV021. Why so Serious?” by Hans Zimmer — 3:26. Like with the mid-bass, SV021 has a deeper response with more presence. There is more quantity and more volume (not referring to loudness) in the sub-bass.

The Robin’s treble is light and airy. Just like the bass and midrange, the treble position is a little recessed and not upfront. The treble extension is good, showing ample decay and trailing harmonics on notes.
