About this deal

The power consumption of the RAC900 is 280 Watts. That’s equivalent to 5 car headlamp bulbs of 55 Watts each. This is much more than a cigar lighter which is often 180Watts. And it’s continuous throughout the time you’re pumping the tyre. If you need air at the side of the road either drive to a garage if its just low or change the wheel. I'm looking for a reliable air compressor myself after finding out that the supplied one on our Burstner is next to useless....actually it is useless.

Professional High Power Air Compressor, 280W - Ring

But while the speed is great, niceties such as a digital gauge, an auto-stop function and lights, are conspicuous by their absence. On the plus side, you get a 7m-long coiled hose between the compressor and the screw-on tyre-valve coupling, and the compressor itself can be up to 2.4 metres from the battery, thanks to long power leads that clamp directly to the battery’s terminals. The preset digital air compressor function with auto shut-off saves time and hassle. Unlike other models, the display also features tyre pressure readings in PSI, BAR and KPA, so no more having to make complicated conversions from one type to another. For dark winter mornings or night time car breakdowns, there’s a handy LED lamp that features a torch, flash and SOS setting for extra convenience and safety. PROFESSIONAL-GRADE TYRE INFLATOR: used by the UK’s leading breakdown professionals. The RAC900 features anti-vibration rubber mounted feet for stable placement when inflating a tyre, thermal overload protection, waterproof on/off switch so it can be used in all weather conditions and inline fuse to protect vehicle electronics. I’ve used it to top up car and motorbike pressures and once to seat a stubborn tubeless tyre on a mountain bike. I like the screw-on fittings and long hose but generally think a digital gauge is easier to use than an analogue one. It’s a hefty bit of kit, but super speedy and surprisingly quiet.

This has always been a problem for me, as I cannot find a local garage/supermarket where I can blow up the tyres. I keep the tyres at 67psi, but most garage machines have a top limit lower than this. I have had a Bosch rechargeable gun type compressor, but the battery gave up the ghost and the unit had been discontinued anyway. Then I bought the Ring RAC630 12v compressor as recommended by a survey in one of the Club magazines, but this has failed after only a couple of uses.Free Delivery is not available for Over-Sized parcels, such as Exhausts, Radiators & Headlamps - For details on these items please see the 'Oversized Items' section below. Unfortunately, the Screwfix master plug is as stated a 10A rated item, whereas the Ring RAC 900 the OP has is rated at 30 Amps, massively higher. Accurate to 0.05 BAR, this Michelin air compressor tyre pump is very useful, coming complete with an LED lamp, accessory adaptors, and a USB port for charging your smartphone. The air cords are a generous 60cm in length, and the screw-on tips are of highly durable brass construction. Some years ago I bought a RING RAC900 tyre inflator. All was well, but at that time I had a 12v battery “spare” . My leisure battery is not that accessible, so this worked well. At home, in the drive, but not on the move. It has worked faultlessly many times but they do have limitations, I never run continuously for long periods, which would be needed for inflating a large tyre from near flat.

The Halfords product is OK, but the lever-operated connector is crudely made and far from sturdy - I accidentally stood on mine and the connector and hose parted company. While this 12V digital air compressor is not the most accurate nor the most durable, it is handy and stores neatly in your car boot. Unfortunately, the instructions are very poor and we’d advise you to try it out several times on arrival to familiarise yourself with the product. I have the RING RAC900 identified by johnDL and can report I have been very pleased with it on my 65 psi tyres. I know that falls well below the OP's 5.5 bar 80 psi target but it is the best DC inflator by miles I have come across. My more toy earlier ones were fine out of the box but a few years in limped to get above 60 psi. The 2.4m length of the battery connection cables, plus the 7-metre (extended) length of the air-line, should allow any of wheels of most motorhomes to be reached if (as Keithl has mentioned above) the pump is connected to a Ducato’s engine-compartment ‘jump start’ points. The RTC1000 arrives encased in its protective carry bag with a set of latex gloves for handling messy wheels and a spare set of tyre valve caps included. This digital tyre inflator has a carry bag case with flat edges for the purpose of unobtrusive stowing. That’s a nice touch because the RTC1000 is likely to reside inconspicuously in the boot of a car for most of its lifetime.

I’m not 100% sure its a metric thread but it was made in recent years within the EU. My next best guess would be an NPT (National Pipe Thread), but I can’t see a taper on it. Away from a petrol station I still used a foot pump. I once bought a cheap air compressor to inflate tyres but it was too noisy. I felt inhibited from using it at home on the driveway in case I disturbed my neighbours. So I got rid of it. The average car battery may have a capacity, when new, of 50 Ampere Hours, i.e. if you connected a device that would draw 25 amps (and the RAC900 draws 23 amps) the battery would be drained in 2 hours. It measures psi (pounds per square inch), BARs and kg/cm 2 Carrying Bag For The Air Compressor RAC900Likewise, the three minutes 20 seconds inflation time that the Ring RAC700 took to get our test tyre from flat to 30PSI is slower than a professional product. For our test we used a 205/55 x 16 tyre. In using them, we could also determine if their power leads and air hoses were long enough – longer ones make the units easier to position and cordless ones are even better. We also found that the screw-on style couplings were the best and easiest to use. A few weeks ago I passed a friend in the street who was inflating his car tyres on his driveway witha RING Automotive Air Compressor RAC900. He was eagerly showed me his new tyre pump which was powered by his car battery. He explained that it had the advantages over other tyre pumps because it: The RAC830 Caravan and Motorhome Rapid Digital Tyre Inflator is ideal for campervans, motorhomes, 4X4s, SUVs, caravans, minibuses and vans.
