The movie ends with Asuka’s happy face knowing that Takahiro remembers her, and the spectators don’t know what will happen next. In the manga, a new body search begins, and Asuka and Takahiro will join it again. But the group will discover a greater curse hidden behind the never-ending loop of the body searches, and Re/Member will show the origin of the story, explained. When they wake up the next day on July 5 again, things are different. Most notably, Rie is not there. No one outside of the time loop has heard of Rie. The teens determine that, by finding the doll, they woke up this new monster, and if they get eaten by the monster, they will be erased from existence. The fights with the ghost tend to be fast paced and energetic, and there’s a bit more to the plot than just a collection of jump scares. If you’re looking for a way to kill some time, it should do the job nicely. extremely atmospheric with plenty of kills and not a boring moment in sight. there are some pretty nice practical effects (unfortunately, there's also some questionable cgi) and fairly likeable characters too. this takes a premise that we've all seen before and somehow still makes it enjoyable. simple j-horror done well. So why is Asuka’s name in the newspaper? She wasn’t brutally murdered at age 8, because she grew up to be a lonely teenager who helped break a time loop curse… right? Peppered throughout the repetitive homicidal evenings is a teen romance, which centres on the misfit teen Asuka (Kanna Hashimoto) and the disparate group of teens who form bonds in the face of certain death. Though the two stories fit together narratively, the two disparate genres butt up against each other in a way that makes both feel overly campy.
