About this deal

Water leaks are serious because they can do quite a lot of damage to floors and furnishings. There are different types of radiators installed on most central heating systems now. The first thing you need to identify is where the leak is coming from. The two places you can spring a leak will either be the radiator panels themselves or the radiator valves at the end of the radiator. You can also use LSX jointing compound and leak sealer from Fernox which is an external leak sealer that again, is a temporary fix and only suitable for small holes. These plastic resin sealants can sometimes work on these leaks. Each morning, the coolant level is down to the very bottom of the reservoir. But I can't see a noticeable leak. As they are so dependent on airspeed, surface radiators are even more prone to overheating when ground-running. Racing aircraft such as the Supermarine S.6B, a racing seaplane with radiators built into the upper surfaces of its floats, have been described as "being flown on the temperature gauge" as the main limit on their performance. Pressurized cooling systems [ edit ] Radiator caps for pressurized automotive cooling systems. Of the two valves, one prevents the creation of a vacuum, the other limits the pressure. Because the thermal efficiency of internal combustion engines increases with internal temperature, the coolant is kept at higher-than-atmospheric pressure to increase its boiling point. A calibrated pressure-relief valve is usually incorporated in the radiator's fill cap. This pressure varies between models, but typically ranges from 4 to 30psi (30 to 200kPa). [4] Opening a hot radiator drops the system pressure, which may cause it to boil and eject dangerously hot liquid and steam. Therefore, radiator caps often contain a mechanism that attempts to relieve the internal pressure before the cap can be fully opened. In the case of a leaking radiator valve it will leak from where it enters the radiator or another joint on the two nuts. The water can run down the water pipe and no be entirely visible for quite a long time. If the valve is damaged it may also leak from the main body of the valve.

These failures can occur via internal corrosion after using poor quality coolant/antifreeze, or through failure to follow the appropriate coolant change schedules. Or they could simply occur through external damage to a component of the cooling system.

Radweld also prevents future leaks to help keep your car on the road for longer. By treating areas of corrosion and pitting at the source, the product effectively extends the life of your coolant/antifreeze and individual components within the cooling system, which helps to prevent future leaks while maintaining the efficacy of engine cooling for longer. Some vintage cars use radiator cores made from coiled tube, a less efficient but simpler construction. Steam from your radiator and an overheating engine doesn’t have to ruin your day or cost a fortune to repair. With its advanced formula, Holts Radweld will target leaks in your car’s cooling system, safely sealing gaps and holes without causing any damage or clogging within the engine. Add Radweld directly into the expansion tank. Make sure the car is cool before you unscrew the cap and top up with coolant antifreeze following the instructions in the vehicle owner's manual. The sludge it leaves behind in the system is unbelievable and just adds to the time it takes to ultimately fix the problem properly.

Can I use Radweld if my car is under warranty?

Radweld is designed to be added directly into the engine’s expansion tank. You don’t need to drain or flush the system before you use it – just pour and go. Radweld works through the radiator channels to seal leaks without any clogging or damaging effects, so all you need to do is pour it in and let it repair the leak.

Hi John, thought you might like to know it was the plastic housing on the thermostat that had gone and was leaking when the engine was hot.Years ago when I worked with engineers developing temperature-sensing fan drives, we used Bars leaks as a temporary measure in a Rover V8 which was instrumented with thermocouples in top tank, cylinder head and datalogging equipment. Another area where a radiator may be leaking is at the bleed valve if this is not done up tightly. With a bleed key, this is a ten second job to fix that you can sort on your own.

Turbo charged or supercharged engines may have an intercooler, which is an air-to-air or air-to-water radiator used to cool the incoming air charge—not to cool the engine. Yes, you can use Holts Radweld before an MOT. A leaking radiator can be expensive to repair, and could cause your car to fail its MOT, so solving the problem at home first can be an ideal solution. Radweld works its way through the system seeking out leaks and forming permanent repairs in minutes. The product has been carefully formulated to mix with all engine coolant and antifreeze. You pour it directly into the cooling system, no need to drain or flush the system first. Radweld also provides anti-corrosion protection and prevents future leaks; it will last the lifetime of the coolant in the system. How to Use Radweld As the coolant level falls, the heater is always the first to fail which can set the alarm bells off. Surface radiators have also been used by a few high-speed racing cars, such as Malcolm Campbell's Blue Bird of 1928.Haven't had anything to do with leaky radiators since using some goat's cheese on a Morris Minor radiator in 1978 . As this information is anonymised and aggregated it cannot be used to identify any individual user actions. Over time, deposits, dust and general wear and tear can cause leaks to develop in a car’s radiator, with the main symptoms including leaking coolant/antifreeze and an overheating engine. In the past, this would have meant a pricey repair bill, but thanks to Holts Radweld, fixing a leaky radiator is now a job you can do yourself at home. Do you notice a smell around the car, after a run? Some describe it as a curry smell but its nowt like the tikka shaslic Im used to
