About this deal

Clay pigeon shooting, also known as clay target shooting, is a shooting sport involving shooting a firearm at special flying targets known as clay pigeons, or clay targets. One of the most common errors of all is wing shooting, which is often the result of simply not understanding the need to shoot well in front of most moving targets. If you are having problems, go to a skeet range (always useful as a training area). Stand on the second station and engage the easier, low-house bird – a simple crosser. If you are consistently missing, try shooting a measured lead, let’s say 6in, 12in, 18in and 2ft until you find it. I know that sounds too precise, but try it. The terminology commonly used by clay shooters often relates to times past, when live-pigeon competitions were held. Although such competitions were made illegal in the United Kingdom in 1921, a target may still be called a "bird", a hit may be referred to as a "kill", and a missed target as a "bird away"; the machine which projects the targets is still known as a "trap". The instructions and specifications are printed on the boxes. For clay competition, shot size must not exceed 2.6mm/English No. 6. [7] The shot load must be a maximum 28g (0.99oz) for all domestic disciplines; or 24g (0.85oz) for Olympic trap, Olympic skeet, and double trap; up to 28g for FITASC sporting (from 2005); and 36g (1.3oz) for helice. During periods of statutory suspension, you can kill or take Canada geese if it’s essential. Advice for condition 1: alternative lawful methods Birds become used to certain non-lethal methods of control (‘habituation’) but you should not stop using non-lethal methods for this reason.

If you use a cage trap, it does not need to satisfy the dimension requirements of section 8(1) of the 1981 Act. You must only rely on this licence if you are an authorised person. You do not need to apply to use this licence, but you must follow its terms and conditions. Good gunfit and diagnosed eye dominance are other essentials. The gun should not have excessive cast or a low comb. The latter is common in many mass-produced guns but is easily remedied with a strip of card and some vinyl tape if a gunsmith isn’t available. Keep both eyes open if your eye dominance allows it. Targets are made to very exacting specifications with regard to their weight and dimensions and must conform to set international standards.Clayshooting is growing increasingly popular, whether as a charity event, team building exercise or a way of starting shooting. However, learning to hit clays consistently is something that takes practise and patience. (Read how to ace charity clay days.) Brister, Bob (1982). "My Search for Supergun". Field & Stream.
