About this deal

As with any raw material that is both prized and in short supply, synthetic variants have been developed to replace it. The largest companies responsible for producing synthetics, flavors, and bases for the perfume industry, such as Firmenich and Givaudan, have each developed several high-quality oud oil ‘replacers’ that are used in commercial perfumes to approximate key aspects of the aroma profile of oud oil or oud wood. There are many of these oud synthetics on the market, but here are a few of the most noteworthy or most commonly-used ones. I originally put this review under the parfum as I only have a small 10ml and didn't realize it was the EDP. This is a delicious blind buy. British contributors will know of a deliciously rich, caramel flavoured chocolate bar called Caramac. Majestic Gold's patchouli base very much resembles Caramac's distinctive smell and in the beginning it is accompanied by floral notes that lie somewhere between Invictus and One Million. These go within ten minutes and occasional wafts of oud and sweet leather complement the caramel. Deeper into the dry down the gourmand element all but goes and you're left with a bed of a more straightforward patchouli. This rapidly lifts off my skin (unfortunately, because that's actually my favourite bit!) to a creamy, dark, sexy, slightly spicy floral. Opens with a fruity floral burst with soft violet tones and dark & creamy nuances from truffle & gardenia. As it transitions to the heart, spicy notes are added which intensify the darkness of the florals, and the overall effect is a fantasy orchid with dark nuances. The Mexican-chocolate, vanilla-patchouli & incense in the base continue the dark & creamy florals for well beyond excellent performance. It's not listed, but I also get some suede-leather tones as well. I've had it since 2015, but this scent just gets better with time, both on the skin and in the bottle, and for me the chocolate-truffle notes came out more after having the bottle a few years.

In the dry down the patchouli and orchid continue to dominate the senses as the brighter notes dissipate, with the added smooth darkness coming from the chocolate accord. Incense and spicy notes add to the complexity and darkness of the fragrance, overall leaving the wearer with a mysteriously sweet and alluring scent bubble. |Damascones coverd salicylates dark fruity patchouli Smokey lactonic perfume with deep amberwoody oudy muskiness and mysterious powerful and sensual I think its suits better for women SIMILAR: These are examples of fragrances in the same genre. Amouage Jubilation XXV Man's EDP is a great oud and sweet fruity fragrance; This is an amazing frag. It’s like Oud that went to the best and most expensive school. I can feel the luxury!

If you are buying a commercial oud-based perfume or a mukhallat or attar at the lower end of the price scale, then what you are getting is not real oud, but oud synthetics. While oud synthetics are made in a lab and not inside a tree, and therefore cannot be either a style or a terroir, they have been specifically created to mimic different characteristics of the styles observable in the natural material. Therefore, it is useful to have an idea of the different types of oud synthetics currently in use and where you might encounter them. I just can't get any performance out of this fragrance. Even soaking myself with 20 sprays only yields a skin-scent of leather...leaving me smelling like some kinda leather-wearing old biker dude or a BDSM gimp that just finished a suit-session. Today was colder than the last days and I can’t wait to get the parfum version in my hands (like Noir Extreme Parfum as well for my husband 🔥 ) so my #sotd was this You have to wait about 20 minutes for the DNA of this fragrance to reveal itself, and it is unquestionably a take on the Stronger With You line. As mentioned by many others below, it is similar to both SWY Leather and the Oud edition. In fact I'd say closer to the former as you will get passing wafts of leather, but definitely oud, too. Sweet, gourmand, it should be worn on colder days. Lasts at least 12 hours on me, and you will smell it throughout the wear. In the base notes I can smell a deep and rich dark chocolate note, a very earthy patchouli, a smoky incense note, a deep and resinous amber note and a whole lot of sandalwood and vetiver. This all makes this a very deep, dark, slightly sweet, gourmand and resinous blend that I just find much too much for my olfactory senses. I could have especially done without the patchouli and the heavy helping of amber.Borneo oud oils come from a group of different species of Aquilaria trees ( A. beccariana, A. apiculate, A. cumingiana, A. filaria, A. hirta, A.malaccensis, and A. microcarpa) all growing on the island of Borneo, which has a steamy rainforest climate. In the case of Borneo oud oil, terroir and style seem to be far more important than the species, because the oils produced from wood on the island all display the same general aroma profile regardless of the species used in the distillation. Borneo oils and wood are highly regarded in the oud world for their uniquely fresh, light character. Indonesia is a vast territory, both geographically and stylistically-speaking. Maroke oud oils typically come from Indonesia and possess what might be defined as an Indonesian character: dark, jungly, moist, and a bit wild. Many oud legends such as Oud Sultani by Ensar Oud also hail from Indonesia. But with such a broad and diverse profile, it is difficult to make any generalizations about the character of Indonesian oud oils as a group. Only the following can be stated with much confidence: Upon application, I get a screechy, ammonia-like, licorice (?) opening, which thankfully goes away after a few minutes. After about half an hour I can't stop smelling my wrist; it makes me feel like a mysterious character out of a novel or an RPG game, a creature of darkness, a vampire, or someone who is into the "dark academia" aesthetic. I think that going off of the feeling I get from this fragrance, it would be a fragrance that a man would wear from fall to winter and during the evening only. I also think that it being only worn in cold weather might make it somewhat more tolerable and less strong. Purple Oud is a very dark and smoky fragrance that indeed evokes the color purple, a dark evening sky purple specifically. Saffron is a purple flower with a deep and leathery smell, after all.
