About this deal

Lottie navigates the perils of growing up in this fantastically funny new illustrated series for pre-teens filled with friendship, embarrassing moments and, of course, KitKat Chunkys. As an adult this book is a comedy, getting to read about the dramas of an 11 year old is completely hilarious and i promise it will make you feel so relaxed realizing how everything feels like the end of the world at that age. Her growth through the book is huge and she ends her diary with the message that you shouldn't do anything you don't want to do just because someone tells you to and actually it's okay to just be you. Which I think every preteen (or tween as some in my class like to be referred as!) needs to hear. She openly discusses what her body is going through (or not going through) during puberty and comparing it to everyone else. From an adult point of view, I liked how her mum talked about it with her and celebrated her changing body and didn't make her feel like it was something to feel shameful about. We need more body positive talk!

It was about Lottie Brooks on her journey through year 7. It was very relatable and I kept thinking I was her and it got very confusing! Then Lottie meets new CRUSH Antoine. The language is a tiny bit of a barrier but does it matter when he's THAT good looking? Katie Kirby is a writer and illustrator who lives by the sea in Hove with her husband, two sons and dog Sasha. After a summer of meeting handsome French boys and getting a tiny bit sunburnt. OK, fine - a lot sunburnt, Lottie's heading off on a week-long residential school trip. A whole week away from embarrassing parents and Toby's tasty air biscuits!

The first book in the hilarious new series for children by the bestselling creator of Hurrah For Gin. The character of Lottie is so relatable too. I know I'm years away from my own childhood but my memories are pretty strong. I know all too well the realities of so called 'popular girls' (although in my school it was actually both the girls and the boys who were equally mean) making fun of me for the slightest thing. And although this is a humorous book that had me laughing out loud in some places, there were also some emotional moments where Lottie is crying in bed. The pacing was brilliant - it wasn't too slow or repetitive, and it had just enough action to make it exciting and realistic.

The extremely embarrassing life of Lottie Brooks is a relatable funny book about an eleven and 3/4 year old girl starting secondary school. It is set in England 2021 and so is very new. As an 11 year old girl myself I know a lot about the subjects and I feel Katie Kirby has captured each problem and added humor to it. raamat polnud paha, aga polnud tõesti ka üks neid lasteraamatuid, mis täiskasvanut sama palju kõnetaks. vahepeal ikka ei juhtunud lehekülgede kaupa midagi muud, kui et rulliti tiktokki ja söödi snäkke - ma saan aru, et (eel)teismelise jaoks unistuste elu, aga mul oli jube igav lugeda, oleks tahtnud kas mõnda sündmust või vähemalt mõnda mõtetki! I had to eat all the KitKat Chunkys after reading the first book. Does Lottie have a new favourite chocolate in the next book?
