About this deal

TOOLS in 1: Includes all the essentials, from replaceable wire cutters to spring-action scissors to 2 knives for ambidextrous use; Ideal for EDC, home, work and everything else Everything I’ve tried works as advertised. And many of these tools have been a part of the Leatherman tool family for decades, so they ought to work well. With the Free series Leatherman sought to once again revolutionize the multi tool world. Overall we think they did a pretty good job of it. The Free P4 in particular is one of the easiest multi tools to open and use that we’ve ever seen. You won’t break your nails anymore, this has never happened to me or any Leatherman owner I’ve ever known, including women. Along with founder Stephen Regenold and Editorial Director Sean McCoy, Ruggiero graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism. He was the recipient of the 2022 Outdoor Media Summit “Editor of the Year” award, and regularly co-hosts the industry’s “Gear Guide” at both summer and winter Outdoor Retailer trade shows. If you’re an expert and don’t mind the robust structure offered by P4, then going with this tool will serve you well. As I noted above, the FREE carries with it a novelty that’s hard to resist playing with. While it’s not as dramatic (or menacing) as a butterfly knife, the one-handed action is unlike any other multi I’ve used.In most respects the Free P4 and P2 are nearly identical. They’re both 4.25 inches long and are just one ounce apart in weight. The P4 has 21 tools while the P2 only has 19. You give up the saw and the second knife blade but otherwise have an identical tool loadout. They’re also priced very close to one another. I’m not a fan of fidget spinners — waste of money if you ask me. But after using Leatherman’s new FREE multitool (launching this month), I can certainly see some of the appeal.

Bernard is known for bringing everyday carry out of obscurity and into the mainstream, having been published or featured in various publications such as GQ, TIME Magazine, The New York Times, VICE, HYPEBEAST, Outside, and many others. He has also played a part in curating, designing, and developing digital and physical products, resulting in successful crowdfunding projects or limited edition collaboration products with established softgoods brands. He stays on the pulse of the EDC industry by attending trade shows, participating in online interest communities, and actively engaging with fellow gear enthusiasts on social media. You can easily rely on these different options to manage the project accordingly. There is no need to struggle with the limited mobility of the combo blade. The Leatherman Free P4 is a great multi tool on its own. As anyone who’s ever owned a multi tool can tell you though, there’s always an accessory or add on that will make it a bit better. And while customers will likely never lay eyes on the elastomer spring inside the pliers, it should vastly improve the lifetime of the tool. According to the brand, the new spring survived over 1 million openings and closings without wearing out, far exceeding the tens of thousands the old spring did. LEATHERMAN, Charge Plus TTi Titanium Multitool with Scissors and Premium Replaceable Wire Cutters, Stainless Steel, Built in the USA

The best selling multi tool on the market has a bit holder, yet the Free has Wingman style screw drivers. Why? Well the Wingman tools are cheaper to make and hipsters aren’t actually going to use this for work.

Going with either one of these units is not a bad idea as long as you’re a bit aware of the basic use cases. The only downside here is that the P2 brings a combo blade, and you can’t use it for precision projects. I absolutely LOVE how all of the tools are accessible from the outside of it, without having to open the pliers and the whole thing, and the overall quality of every part and placement of every tool. Everything is a little easier to access and use but you probably don’t need to run out and buy a Free P4 if you’re already happy with your Surge, Wave+, or Charge TTi. This is especially true given the premium price of the P4. Out of the box, even the presentation was amazing. Like a major tech company showing off what you just bought. The first time I opened up the pliers, I laughed because I've never felt a tool like this since I was a kid with a cheap butterfly knife. Not to say it felt cheap, but that it was fun, made sense, and easy to use in one hand.If you’re still confused, then there is no harm in going to your local workshop or the hardware store and testing out these units for yourself.
