About this deal

The pig that was originally floated above Battersea Power Station was called "Algie". [6] [7] In the Flesh [ edit ] Michael from Kearny, NjRoger Waters said in an interview that the animals represent the class system in Britain. Pigs being the wealthy upper class, who make their fortunes off of the blood and sweat of the working class (the sheep, or are born into wealth. The dogs, of course are the white collar middle and upper-middle class business types. The original idea for this album WAS LOOSELY inspired by George Orwell's "Animal Farm"(Waters has said this himself).

Pink Floyd pigs - Wikipedia

The Pass the Pigs dice game has been a much loved family game for years in our house and when I heard about the GIANT inflatable version I jumped at the chance to have a go with the kids. Josh from Great Yarmouth, EnglandNo one has answered Danny's question so I'll do it. It's from Season 5, and the episode is Scott Tenerman Must Die. A great episode. Go to Southparkzone.com to watch it. A replica of Algie was tethered above Battersea Power Station on 26 September 2011 to promote the Why Pink Floyd...? campaign, involving the reissue of the band's first 14 studio albums. Pink Floyd added a 'deflated' pig to Roger Waters' auction of animation art from the film The Wall at Christie's London, on 21 September 1990, but the lot was withdrawn before the auction started. [ citation needed]Algie was worked into a design by artists Andrew Saunders and Jeffrey Shaw and made in Germany by Ballon Fabrik, a company famed for its work on Zeppelin airships. But after its accidental jailbreak from the power station, by the time the pig returned from its unplanned trip to Kent the weather had turned. Powell was unable to shoot the same Turner-esque sky he had the day before. Hipgnosis resorted to cutting and pasting an earlier image of the pig onto their best 10x8 shot of the power station. Nothing about Algie was quite what it seemed to be. The album is about music and Roger Waters describe himself like a dog (in the previous song Dogs). He describe himself as a dog because he have made money with music he became a rich capitalist after the success made with previous two albums ( Wish You Were Here and The Dark Side Of The Moon). Joe from Great Beyonddoesn't seem to me well heeled big wheel i government, but the greedy rich that have too much influence over society. of course there are rich people in government, but.... We knew the music and lyrics were fuelled and characterised by anger,” said Storm Thorgerson – who, with Aubrey “Po” Powell, co-founded Hipgnosis, the design group that had worked on all Pink Floyd’s album covers since 1968’s A Saucerful of Secrets. “I can’t say that I cared for it much myself because I found it too angry compared to Wish You Were Here.”

a b c Rex Thomson (3 December 2021). "Pink Floyd's Inflatable Pig Breaks Loose And Terrorizes London, On This Day In 1976". Live for Live Music . Retrieved 5 December 2021. Radio and TV news bulletins urged the public to report any sightings. For the rest of the day, Hipgnosis fielded crank callers and journalists wanting a quote. Fortunately, the pig had a safety valve. As the air pressure outside decreased, gas was expelled from the valve, causing the pig to descend. Mike from AmericaThe song is not only about politics but human behavior as well. Pigs are the elite of society, the upper echelon, decision makers and providers of goods. Dogs are the mid-level, trying to get to the next step, doing whatever they have to to get there. Sheep are the low, passive, subservient that are the masses, content to stay on the bottom. The general concept of the album is to imagine the Sheep violently revolting against these ideas and reversing these roles.

The album cover shows a giant inflatable pig drifting above a London power station. During the shoot, the pig broke free, where it caused chaos as it floated near Heathrow airport. It went up about 18,000 feet before coming down in a farm in Kent. They never did get the shot, and ended up compositing 2 pictures for the cover.

Roger Waters: German police investigate ex-Pink Floyd star

The giant, inflatable pig became a part of Pink Floyd's live show, where it was brought out for this song. The pig became a point of contention when the band toured without Roger Waters - the new inflatable pig had testicles, which some fans interpreted as a stab at Waters. During a concert in Chicago on 8 June 2012 at Wrigley Field, the pig crashed into the crowd behind home plate and was ripped to pieces by the crowd. Frankie from Engine, InI always thought they said "I should ride you out" instead of "Ha, ha charade you are" So, when Roger Waters sat down with Aubrey Powell and came up with the idea to send Algie the inflatable pig up above London landmark Battersea Power Station, people really took them seriously. “I’d always loved Battersea Power Station, just as a piece of architecture,” Waters later told Rolling Stone of the album’s conceptual artwork. The building rests in a previously undeveloped area of the capital, though now it has been given a billion-pound makeover. But for Waters, the building resonated with what he and the group were trying to achieve: “I thought it had some good symbolic connections with Pink Floyd as it was at that point,” he said. “One, I thought it was a power station, that’s pretty obvious. And two, that it had four legs. If you inverted it, it was like a table. And there were four bits to it, representing the four members of the band.” Other videos show that Waters used a white pig, which did not feature a Star of David, in his 2023 Berlin shows (from 2:30: here) (from 1:40: here) (from 1:15:08: here).

Brothers in arms: Aubrey “Po” Powell and Storm Thorgerson, in the courtyard of the Hipgnosis HQ at 6 Denmark Street, London, 1974 Daniel from Perth, AustraliaMan, I love this song. Probably the best on the album and one of Waters' overall best. The first lines of each verse (...Ha ha, charade you were) are brilliant. Kevin from Southington, CtPink Floyd did actually take pictures of the inflatable pig while it was in the air hanging from the factory but they didn't use any of the pictures because they didn't like the way the sky looked in any of them. They ended up taking a picture without the pig and then adding the pig from one of the other pictures. David Gilmour did play bass on this song as he did on a few other songs including "Hey You". Pink Floyd originally commissioned a helium filled pig to fly over Battersea Power Station in 1978 to be photographed for the front cover sleeve of their new Album ‘Animals’. Verbalg from Bear Grass, IsraelThe song is about how religion taints everything and has divided the world. The three pigs are: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Ha, Ha, charade you are.....
