About this deal

Davies begins with the dismantling of Savile's grave, a six foot-wide, four foot-high triple headstone that had taken the stonemasons eight months to complete. In the wake of the first outpouring of revelations, Scarborough council decided to take it down, a mechanical digger ripping apart the epitaph carved across the bottom: "It was good while it lasted." Fortunately there’s little graphic detail about what he actually did and more about his constant bluster and arrogance from an author who interviewed him a number of times in his later years. The author has also spent time with Savile’s victims, giving them a voice which will stay with me. It was quite an insight. Born into poverty in Leeds in 1926, Jimmy Savile rose to become a knight of the realm, and a confidant of Margaret Thatcher, Princess Diana, and the Prince of Wales. Along the way, he invented the concept of the club DJ, gave the BBC two of its most iconic shows (Top of the Pops and Jim’ll Fix It) and pioneered the celebrity as charity worker and fund raiser. These achievements alone make for a fascinating read, however it is Savile’s prolific and serial abuse of young and frequently vulnerable people that beggars belief. Clearly what helped Savile to operate “In Plain Sight” was his celebrity status. It is easy to forget just how popular he was during the 1970s - and to a lesser extent in the decades before and after. Unlike many reviewers, I never remember thinking Savile was dodgy or creepy. A bit weird perhaps, but not in a dangerous way. I grew up with him on “Top of the Pops” - which he pretty much invented, and of course “Jim’ll Fix It”, a Saturday night staple on BBC1 along with The Generation Game. I can well imagine being 12, 13 or 14 and being in awe of him and also trusting him - as did so many young people who encountered him. He was well practiced in grooming kids, and when necessary their parents too. Seidman, Robert (December 12, 2011). "*Updated* USA Dominates Landscape with Unprecedented Six Straight Years as #1". TV by the Numbers. Archived from the original on January 8, 2012 . Retrieved January 6, 2012. Somebody said something along those lines, that it was every minute of every day. I was thinking, God, is that actually possible? But then you read those NHS reports – particularly the Leeds one – and he is literally taking opportunities as they arise. And not just taking them but engineering them… He targeted people at the top and bottom of institutions. He was very, very clever. So he would make a beeline for the house governor, the top person at the hospital, and then the humble porters. So he'd have both ends of the spectrum covered."

Personally I would describe myself as a skeptic with an open mind towards this stuff. The book covers so much that it is hard to dismiss it all out of hand. At the same time, I am not and have never been a conspiracy theorist. I find it more believable, although not very reassuring, that maybe the reason for decades of dismissal and cover-up is not because our government is in secret communication with an alien race, or busy reverse-engingeering crazy tech, but simply because they just have no idea what's going on either and don't want to look weak in front of the public. UFO/UAP and related topics have certainly attracted a good number of interested persons for a long time, but lately has begun to attract more mainstream attention, myself included. However I can tell you that wild ravings this book is not. It is authored by Ross Coulthart, a multi-award-winning and respected Australian investigative journalist, who has won both multiple Walkley awards and one Logie - Australia's most prestigious awards for print and tv journalism respectively.

Reading this book made me realise how many signs were there that something untoward was happening and yet none of the allegations made to the police and others in a position to act on them were ever properly investigated. Nurses told patients to ‘pretend to be asleep’ and to forget about it and not make a fuss because ‘no one will believe you.’ Many knew of the rumours throughout Jimmy Savile’s long career and yet they were just accepted as something which happened and because it was JS nothing could ever be done about it because he had friends in high places and did so much for charity. The book is narrated by the author himself, who has a clear and engaging voice. However, his deep intakes of breath become a bit distracting after a while - those should have been edited out, or he should have used a better dynamic mic or mic cover. He tries to present his findings as objectively and impartially as possible, but he often reveals his bias and credulity towards the UFO hypothesis. He rarely challenges or questions the sources he relies on, and he accepts many claims at face value without providing sufficient evidence or verification. He also tends to repeat himself and use sensationalist language that undermines his credibility.

There has been a massive coverup of covert programs around this matter for approximately the past 80 years. Excellent! Probably the best book to read _right now_ about UFO stuff, as it covers old cases for a while and then jumps into more recent developments (the US Navy videos, Admiral Wilson docs, and the Salvatore Pais patents). Much of the writing here forwards the narrative of governmental suppression of evidence of UFOs/UAPs. Coulthart details many redacted papers, and meetings within the upper echelons of the American government. Many sworn statements by prominent members of the military and government are also covered here by Coulthart. The reality is, though, he was never going to give up that which he'd guarded so jealously and for so long; the things he must have known would lead to his certain fall.

"Friends of mine would tell you they were bored of me going on about Jimmy Savile. They would all vouch for that." He became a journalist, and eventually an editor "got fed up with me banging on about him and told me to go and interview him". What does it portend for humanity? What is the agenda of our visitors? Is there promise of new, planet saving technologies from their non-polluting, zero point, anti-gravitic, ‘’free energy’' propulsion systems? Compelled to investigate, Coulthart has embarked on the most intriguing story of his career, speaking to witnesses, researchers, scientists, spies, defence officials and intelligence insiders in an attempt to sift the truth from the conspiracy. In the US, powerful new laws and a hardening of government resolve may soon force the military and intelligence communities to reveal what they know about alleged UFO crash retrievals and secret reverse-engineering programs.
