Make sure that you’re using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. If you have a dual-band router, make sure it’s set to 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz. The iKettle isn’t compatible with 5 GHz routers. For me, the main selling point of the iKettle 3.0 is its voice assistant support, which wasn’t available in the previous generation Smarter iKettle 2.0. Alongside Alexa and Google Assistant, the iKettle 3.0 can also work with IFTTT recipes, allowing you to be pretty creative.

Sadly, just because a kettle is 'sustainable' that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good all-around model - that's where our Eco Buy kettles come in. These are models we've chosen because they're excellent performers and are energy efficient. We also prioritise kettles from brands that perform well in our product experience surveys. As with Google Assistant, you can now use Alexa voice commands to control your iKettle’s temperature settings, scheduled boiling times, and much more. This 1.7-litre kettle (500ml minimum boil) is fast thanks to its 3kW element: it took 1m 17s to boil 500ml of water in our tests. Our only real complaint is that the lid-open button isn’t very well placed and it takes two hands to open the lid: one to press the button and one to hold the kettle. Diving into the settings, the iKettle 3.0 has other modes, such as Wake Up mode that sets an alarm to boil the kettle. This is useful for having the kettle boiled for when you rise in the morning. For parents of young children, the Formula Mode can automatically boil the kettle and then allow it to cool down to the desired temperature, alerting you once it’s done. Finally, Home mode can have the iKettle 3.0 automatically boil when the geolocation in the app tells it you’re arriving home.It’s inevitable that a new model for the iKettle line will eventually be released, but until Smarter announces something, the 3 rd Gen will remain the latest product. Aesthetics aside, the Artisan also proved itself in our tests. It took just 2 mins 22 secs to boil 1l of water, which is on par with the rest of the 3,000W models tested. It also excels when it comes to keeping the noise down. During boiling, it only reached a maximum of 52.2dB, making it the quietest kettle on our list. What’s more, once the water’s boiled, there’s no worrying about burning your fingers on the sides. The outside of the Artisan reached an exterior temperature of just 33°C, owing to its dual-walled insulation.

If you’re looking for a feature-rich smart kettle at a reasonable price, you’ll be hard-pressed to find one better than the iKettle. iKettle’s mobile controls, voice commands, and Wi-Fi connectivity are great examples of what the technology has to offer. Hard water can wreak havoc on your kettle, damaging the element and shortening its lifespan. It's also no fun getting bits of scale in your brew.

One notable downside of the Dualit Lite is that it doesn’t do its business super quietly. We recorded how loud each kettle was at boiling water and the Dualit Lite notched up 58.3dB, the second loudest score. Noisiness aside, it did perform well in our tests, including heat retention. There’s no need to rush to pour the water out with this one either. Five minutes after boiling, the water in the Dualit Lite still measured a toasty 93°C, coming second only to the Zwilling Enfinigy Pro. Using filtered water, particularly in a hard water area, can help to reduce limescale build-up.
