Sold in a Hexagon bottle, the Hoegaarden Rosée was reputed to have been served in jam jars in the old times. This is because of its slightly sweet flavors of raspberries and an equally captivating aroma. It’s a wheat beer that’s perfect for all functions of summer, giving you a refreshing flavor and soft dry finish. Although fruity, the wheat beer has a high alcohol content of 5.6%. It’s perfect for spring-inspired dishes and for parties where you want to get everyone in the mood! It also comes in bottles and cans. Lifted High Protein Lager from Lifted Brewing. Surprisingly clear considering the protein in it - 10g per can! Bready malts and stone fruits on the nose, and a malty taste which grows into a citrus bitterness. The body has more heft than your usual lager free-beer.co.uk/lifted-lager… @FreeBeer_UK - Jul 28 As with other Hoegaarden products, you’ll find this available online and in physical retail stores. The wheat beer is enjoyed paired with spicy dishes, barbecues, salads, burgers, and pizzas. Its relatively low alcohol content also makes it ideal for small gatherings with family and friends. Another excellent alternative would be Hitachino Nest White Ale. I talked about this beer in my article on Japanese beers, and it really is one of my favourites. A really clever craft beer, with a lot to offer. The first ones that spring to mind are other Belgian wheat beers such as: This is one of the more recent products from the Hoegaarden brewery, made as a limited edition in their seasonal beer series. It was launched in 2018 and brewed as a wheat beer made from hops, wheat, yeast, sweet cherry juice, cherry syrup, and hops. The beer is specifically made for springtime, with its fresh cherry aroma making it the perfect drink for your spring picnic.

Svart/Hvit from @nogneo . Treacle, coffee, roasted malts and vanilla on the nose, restrained bitterness with more roasted grains, coffee and a slight caramel sweetness as we taste. Lovely hefty body. Could easily pass for a full-fat stout free-beer.co.uk/nogne-o-svar… #alcoholfree @FreeBeer_UK - Sep 5 Scotch was born in Scotland. Hoegaarden was born in Hoegaarden. At press time we have no idea where Nesquik comes from. I’m going to use the AB-Inbev values, because if you can’t trust the company that brews the beer who can you trust? Almost 600 years ago in the Belgian village of Hoegaarden, a band of monks developed this unique recipe. Prior to this new recipe, wheat beers were quite sour; that is, until the Hoegaarden monks started experimenting with orange peel and coriander from the colony Curaçao: a divine discovery that led to the world-famous Hoegaarden recipe and unique citrus flavor. If we’re to believe most million-dollar beer advertisements, brews should be consumed in frosty mugs, ideally in proximity to mountains and/or bikini-clad women. Hoegaarden doesn’t pander to that stereotype. Years before craft beer had us all nervously rethinking beer-serving temperature and glassware, Hoegaarden was asking the Budweiser faithful to take a chance on an unfiltered, citrusy-spiced European recipe with ancient religious roots and little to no apparent sex appeal. And it worked. Hoegaarden is both 6 centuries and 50 years old.

Sadly, Hoegaarden simply cannot be gluten-free. It contains malted barley and wheat, both of which contain gluten. If you are gluten-intolerant then you will probably want to avoid wheat beers full stop! Is Hoegaarden Vegan? A decade or so ago, Hoegaarden wheat beer was my tipple of choice. Bursting with flavour and very different from the standard bitters and lagers I was previously drinking, it would sometimes confuse my fellow drinkers. “Why are you drinking that banana beer?”, I would get asked as I was lifting a hexagonal glass to my lips. The taste was certainly one that took a while to get used to, but opened me up to a world of wheat beers that previously I didn’t know about. Hoegaarden doesn’t necessarily rank among the sexiest beer to bring to a party. If anything, it occupies squarely awkward territory in the beer world: There’s too much of it to be craft, yet it’s too multidimensional to be chugged like a macro lager.

Once you realize you truly love beer (welcome, friend), you take certain reasonable pains to become acquainted with certain terminology. (More smart beer words mean more beer for mouth.) You’ve probably heard the term weissbier and maybe even heard witbier. They sound similar, but weissbier means “wheat beer” while witbier means “white beer.” Say that three times fast. Witbiers like Hoegaarden are in fact made with 50-percent-minimum unmalted wheat, which adds light grainy flavors to the mix, but they’re referred to as “witbier” because they’re unfiltered and hazy or milky. It’s been ‘bottle conditioned.’ Water, Barley Malt, Wheat, Sugar, Flavours, Acidifier: Citric Acid, Coriander Seeds, Orange Peel, Hop, Apple Extract Hoegaarden is just 4.9% abv, which is quite low for a wheat beer, and very low compared to most Belgian beers! Is Hoegaarden Gluten-Free?The Belgian beer is light purple in color and gives a pinkish foamy head when poured into a glass. It’s brewed with unmalted wheat, hops, yeast, raspberries, sweetener, and sugar. The sweet beer has a 3% alcohol by volume and an estimated 90 calories. Rosee was launched in 2017, and it comes in bottles and cans. It comes with a refreshing flavor, a captivating aroma, and a cloudy appearance that accompanies its clean, crisp finish. The fruit beer contains 4.9% alcohol by volume and has an IBU of 13. Its fruity taste makes it the perfect beer to pair with a wide range of dishes, including sausage roll coleslaw, ginger tofu, guacamole, and salad with citrus dressing. It’s significance as a beer has somewhat waned as most do when they are so widely distributed. People claim that Hoegaarden is not as good as it once was but I do not agree, I still think it is a fantastic beer and still the best example to give to someone and say “this is what a witbier is”.
